Meet the Louis Erard Excellence Petite Seconde Bleu Glacier Limited Edition

Louis Erard has released a trilogy of eye-catching Petite Seconde watches as part of its Excellence range - each one adding a dramatic pop of colour to the wrist with the Bleu Glacier watch promising to be just as popular as its accompanying Violette and Blue Nuit iterations.

Le Noirmont-based watchmaker, Louis Erard has spent years democratising luxury watches crafted from traditional Metiers d’Art techniques, making them available to a wider audience for a pleasingly affordable price. This is one area in which the brand has excelled, gaining a revered reputation amongst enthusiasts and other rival watchmakers. Louis Erard operates under the strategic and artistic direction of Manuel Emch, who has dedicated a lot of time and effort to harnessing traditional Swiss watchmaking techniques and celebrating the industry’s decorative dial methods and time-honoured art forms. This is not an easy thing to do, especially in an industry driven by the popular demand for smartwatch technology and new Avant-Garde designs. Like many true watch devotees, however, a classical approach to watchmaking will always be highly respected amongst those who can appreciate a true luxury watch for what it is - a thing of intricacy, complexity and refined beauty.

The addition of the new CEO, Manual Emch back in 2019 has certainly brought some niche skills to the table. Adding yet another facet to Louis Erard’s paradigm is its confidence to collaborate and engage with external designers like Alan Silberstein and Eric Giroud. As it stands, Louis Erard is entering a particularly interesting period of its watch manufacturing heritage right now. Impressive by any measure is the fact that the brand was nominated for two GPHG awards back in 2020 and its unique designs just keep coming.

The new Louis Erard Excellence Petite Seconde Bleu Glacier Limited Edition watch

The new Louis Erard Excellence Petite Seconde Bleu Glacier watch has been released alongside two other iterations – one named the Petite Seconde Violette and one named the Blue Nuit. All three models are to be produced in a limited supply of between 100 and 150 pieces per year. Let’s take a look at the watch’s key selling features and why you’ll one to add the Blue Nuit watch to your collection:

  • A compact case size under 40mm for slender wrist sizes
  • Functional catch spring bars on the strap for an easy change-over
  • A versatile dress watch style for pairing with evening or professional attire
  • Limited Edition watch improving its value proposition
  • Fitted with a reliable Swiss-made automatic movement
  • Boasting a deep entrancing blue dial colour
  • Fitted on a classic leather strap in a matching deep blue colour
  • Adorned with the signature fir tree features of the Excellence watch series
  • Small seconds feature donating more space to the main dial
  • See-through exhibition caseback for admiring the movement at work

The Bleu Glacier watch is limited in supply just like its two siblings and features a polished stainless steel case that has been reworked and refined for the Excellence collection. It measures a 39mm diameter and is integrated with 50-meter water resistance. The watch features the signature fir tree crown at 3 o’clock to match a set of fir tree hands on the dial, these are hallmarks of the Excellence collection and a nod to the company’s promise in keeping the Excellence watch design as faithful to the original as ever. The case features a domed anti-reflective and scratch-resistant sapphire crystal glass front to protect the surface of its rich blue glacial-inspired dial from denting, dust, scratching, light, heat and moisture damage. In addition to this, it seals to the case to lock out moisture for the reliable Swiss-made movement that sits deep at the heart of the watch.

The dial of the new Louis Erard Excellence Seconde Petite Bleu Glacier Limited Edition watch is comprised of different zones in textures. The outer section of the dial is executed in a circular satin-finished effect, whilst the small second feature at 6 o’clock is finished in a diamond cut zone with white transfers and glossy blue indexes. The fir tree hands, of course, add the perfect finishing touch to this dial and are completed with a polished blue effect.

Inside the case of the new Louis Erard Excellence Petite Seconde Bleu Glacier watch is the Swiss-made automatic Sellita SW261-1 calibre, which provides a useful 38-hour power reserve once fully wound. It features an elaboré grade movement with a special openworked oscillating weight adorned with the Louis Erard symbol in black lacquer. The movement is showcased through a sapphire exhibition caseback, offering a unique glimpse into the mechanics of the watch as it works. To complete its stylish dress watch look, the new Bleu Glacier Excellence watch from Louis Erard is fitted on a matching ice blue grained calf leather strap with a blue grained calf leather lining and tone-on-tone stitching It also features a polished stainless steel pin buckle with functional catch spring bars, enabling you to switch the watch strap over as and whenever required.
