Introducing the Oris Aquis Dat Watt Limited Edition II

The new Oris Dat Watt Limited Edition watch for 2023 marks two years of collaborative work between the Swiss watchmaker and the Common Wadden Sea Secretariat. Its shimmering green dial is inspired by the waves of the Wadden Sea and the marshes found there that thousands of species of wildlife call home.

It is common knowledge for true Oris fans that the Swiss watchmaker from Holstein has been investing in environmental projects for over ten years now. Its “Change for the Better” initiatives have been the focus behind many of its dive watches as of late, including the Oris Dat Watt Limited Edition watch of just 2009 pieces, launched in 2021 as a mark of its work with the Common Wadden Sea Secretariat.

The proceeds from that special watch went to supporting the coordinating body that was founded in 1987 by the governments of Germany, Denmark and the Netherlands – the three countries that border the Wadden Sea itself. The Wadden Sea covers over 11,000km2 of biodiverse sea, of which 2,300 species of flora and 2,700 marine species call their home. In addition to this, the location is also where 10 million migratory birds find themselves heading each year. Sadly, it is also under constant threat of maritime traffic and fishing. Despite this, much of its intertidal ecosystem still functions undisturbed but it needs protecting, which is where the Common Wadden Sea Secretariat comes into play, aiming to protect and preserve the Wadden Sea’s unbroken tidal flat system.

Together, Oris and the Common Wadden Sea Secretariat also organise awareness of the unique natural area through joint events, the first one of which took place in the Netherlands where the author of the organisation attended, wearing the Oris Dat Watt dive watch on her wrist.

The Wadden Sea

The limited edition Oris watch, released in 2021, featured a striking gradient dial that showed the height of the tidal range in the northern hemisphere according to on the lunar cycle. The function was designed in collaboration with professional diver and Oris ambassador, Roman Frischknecht and debuted in the 2013 Oris ProDiver Pointer Moon watch. The Oris Dat Watt model featured a dial that transitioned from a brown-beige colour to a grey-green colour before merging into a stunning blue hue. The clever colours carefully chosen for the model reflected the appearance of the Wadden Sea at high and low tide, as well as the harmonic hues of the earth, sea and sky. It took a trial run of twenty different designs before Oris experts stuck with the colour scheme for the Dat Watt watch. Now the brand extends on this story with the release of the second Oris Dat Watt Limited Edition watch, this time presented in a colour scheme that reflects the marshes of the Wadden Sea.

The new Oris Dat Watt Limited Edition 2023

The Dat Watt, as it is known in local dialect, is under a constant threat of destruction due to pollution, overfishing, and tourism. The release of the new limited edition Oris watch aims to inspire the next generation of conservationists with this second release, which doubles up as a powerful symbol on the wrist. Inspired by the waves of the salt marshes, the new green shimmering dial of the Oris Dat Watt Limited Edition 2023 watch reflects an extended partnership between the organisation and the Swiss watchmaker, with its bold 43.5mm case crafted from stainless steel. The watch is water resistant to 300 meters and offers the useful advantage of a unidirectional rotating diver’s bezel for safe and effective measuring of elapsed time underwater. The grey tungsten bezel insert is a perfect choice for complimenting the green hues of the dial.

The new Oris Dat Watt Limited Edition watch for 2023 has a screw down security crown with a protection system engraved with the Oris logo, as well as a tough piece of anti-glare sapphire crystal glass to form the top of the watch and protect the surface of the wave-inspired dial. Once again the hands and indexes around the hour track are perfectly lumed for plenty of legibility underwater or in the night. Additional features of the dial of this new Oris dive watch based on the trusty Aquis include a discreet small second sub-counter at 9 o’clock with luminous details and a date ring represented in white that runs around the inner track, indicated by a white date dash that rotates 360 degrees on a disc over the course of a 32 day cycle.

Once again, the new Oris Dat Watt Limited Edition watch is limited to 2009 pieces – a number that signifies the year in which the Wadden Sea was awarded the status of a World Heritage site. Inside the sturdy steel case of the model is the Oris 743, which performs at a rate of 28, 800 vibrations per hour and produces a power reserve of 38 hours once fully wound.

To complete its signature Oris Aquis look, the model is fitted on a robust multi-piece stainless steel bracelet with a security folding clasp and a useful clasp extension feature. In addition to this, you get to enjoy the model on a supple blue rubber band with a steel folding clasp and extension feature, as well as a strap-changing tool.
