A Closer Look at the TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 42mm

The fourth generation of Connected watches by TAG Heuer come with improved sports app features and longer-lasting battery power, but what else? Let’s take a look at the entirely new 42mm-sized Connected and what it’s all about.

When you buy the latest mobile phone, you know it’s an upgrade from the last release, but not quite as good as the one you’ll likely purchase in 12 months time. It has become the norm to upgrade this type of luxury product without hesitation. Just accept that your phone is built to last for a certain period of time and replace it when in 12 months, the brand brings out something new. But when it comes to luxury watches – that’s a whole different kettle of fish. When you part with your money for a watch like the TAG Heuer Connected – you know you’re investing in much more than a watch (or a smartwatch). Every TAG Heuer is built to stand the test of time, which makes new releases like the TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 easy to invest in without even having to justify your reasons. And you don’t have to upgrade – that’s more a personal choice, but each new Connected release does get harder and harder to resist.

The release of this new generation of Connected watches marks a revamped case structure, improved hardware and smartwatch features, along with a range of colourful rubber and leather bands, as well as the much more classic-looking H-shaped link bracelet. The models also come in two size options - an entirely new 42mm diameter and a revamped 45mm.

Today we’re going to take a look at the new 42mm TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 watch. Since 2015, the USP of the Connected watch by TAG Huer has always been its blend of Swiss watchmaking values. These smartwatches manage to retain the look and feel of one of the manufacturer’s most popular chronograph watches, whilst still offering all the latest features in smartwatch functionality. So much so that TAG Heuer was crowned the leading Swiss watch brand to venture into the world of wearer-friendly Smart technology when the first of the Connected series was released over half a decade ago. The new 42mm size of the Connected Calibre E4 is slimmer, sleeker and more compact, suggesting an entirely more refined look and feel on the wrist.

The TAG Heuer Connected enters its fourth generation

We are now in the fourth generation of the TAG Heuer Connected watch. Both the new 42mm size and the larger 45mm models have a larger crown for granting an easier grip under the finger trips for more interaction with the watch’s many smartwatch features. Mixed finishes on the surface of the case are interchanging between brushed and polished, which gives the timepiece an instant added sense of dimension and depth. In addition to this, the push-pieces at the side of the case have a somewhat more mechanical feel and the bevelled edges of the case and tapering, sloping lugs that are designed to hug the wrist more ergonomically, have brushed sections on them too. But what are the key differences between this new 42mm model and the redesigned 45mm version launched alongside it? Well, the new smaller Connected watch does not come in a lightweight black DLC coated titanium case like the 45mm version does. Instead, this size comes in a stainless steel option only. Secondly, the bezel scale is found beneath the glass in the 42mm Connected Calibre E4 watch and does not come with the ceramic insert found in the 45mm version. The choice to do so does have an impact on the overall aesthetics of the watch, giving the 42mm version a cleaner and more contemporary finish on the wrist.

More advanced sports app features for better guided workouts

Moving onto the apps and functions of the new 42mm TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 watch – here’s what you need to know. The model comes with a new Sports app feature that enables you to stay fit without needing your phone by your side. The app offers programmed workouts that, alongside a prompted vibrational feature, tell you to move on to the next set of exercises with an on-screen animation to guide you with correct positioning and movements. Alternatively, you can now pre-programme your own workout, customising it to suit your pace along with the muscle area you want to focus on most.

Improved screen visibility, battery life and an altimeter

The new Sports app is not the only newness to the TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 42mm smartwatch. It also boasts a new and improved screen with high fidelity and contrast, promising optimal visibility when viewed under direct sunlight. Thanks to new Snapdragon technology – there are also improved power levels to be enjoyed in the new Connected watch. A 30% improved battery life lasts all day using the Wellness app. And speaking of the Wellness app – the new Connected watches can be configured with a whole host of captivating dial displays, including popular displays from previous models like the animated Riverside mode and the Wellness mode – a dial option that presents all your important health-related data (like steps taken and heart rate) in control panels on the main dial for instant accessibility.

The newly offered Bluetooth 5.0 technology enables you to sync all your personal bests and data over to another devise quickly and efficiently whilst wireless and at double the speed. The integration of the new Snapdragon 4100+ smartwatch processor offers 30% extra battery life, so you can enjoy a full day of battery, with 1 hour of running, including the use of the Wellness app. Lastly, the addition of the altimeter feature works to measure the altitude at your current location so that your outdoor activities like running and cycling can be better tracked.

Strap options for the new Connected Calibre E4

There’s a quick interchangeable strap system built into the design of the new TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 watch. This means that there’s an impressive variety of coloured rubber and leather band options, as well as the stainless steel H-link TAG Heuer bracelet to choose from when configuring your watch. This is, of course, down to whatever option piques your interest. Some of the most vivid and eye-catching options are the vibrant orange and yellow perforated rubber straps, whilst the stainless steel bracelet provides you with a more sophisticated finish on the wrist, for those more formal occasions.

The new Connected watch has a cool nightstand

There’s a totally new charger system for the new generation of Connected watches by TAG Heuer. The sleek black power-charging nightstand not only recharges the Connected watch, identifying when it’s ready to wear again (thanks to a power-charging monitor), but it also adds a sleek and modern addition to your home interior. It glows subtly during the night, simultaneously displaying the time. Integrated magnets on the charger enable the Connected watch to snap into place, holding it firmly whilst it recharges.
