Unveiling the new DOXA Army Hunter Green Watch

DOXA turns the bezel of its popular Army watch green for this new non-bronze iteration. The full steel DOXA Army watch with a ceramic bezel insert has arrived just before the Watches & Wonders 2023 event kicks off, alongside the new C-Graph II watches

It’s not entirely true to say that the green bezel of the DOXA Army watch is a new thing. The green insert has been done before but with a bronze bezel. This time, green hunter hues and robust steel come together as a unique recipe for this military-inspired dive watch, complete with vivid orange hands and a vintage-inspired creamy beige dial. The story of the DOXA Army goes that it was made only for professional use. It all started when the Swiss Army organised a special team of military divers to train and become an elite corps. This all happened around the same time (1968) that the SUB 300T watch was released by DOXA, having passed a series of stringent tests to deem itself safe to use by the Swiss Army. The watch became a standard part of diving equipment for the army. Just a year later, the Swiss Army and DOXA joined up to create a dive watch based on all the essential features of the SUB 300T watch. It featured a sandy-beige dial similar to the newly released DOXA Army Hunter Green watch, a 60-minute countdown timer on a diving bezel with a matte black insert and a legible display, surrounded by a matte black case. The civilian DOXA Army watch, released after the teaser, proved incredibly popular thanks to its simple concept. The watch, with its beige-coloured dial was then released in two versions; one with a black ceramic bezel insert and one with a hunter green bezel insert – both made from bronze.

The new DOXA Army Hunter Green

This new version of the DOXA Army watch marks the latest addition to the line with a steel unidirectional rotating bezel adorned with a hunter green insert. The bezel is an innovative feature of the dive watch alone, rotating only in the counter-clockwise direction. The safety feature ensures that dive time cannot be accidentally knocked and extended under heavy diving gear and gloves. Its visible minute markers in a 60-minute countdown scale are made all the more legible when at night they glow richly thanks to luminous material. This feature is particularly useful when exploring dark depths underwater also. To use the bezel of the DOXA Army watch, you simply align it with the luminous minute hand on the dial and read off your elapsed time as you go.

The new DOXA Army watch of 2023 features a 300-meter water-resistant capability and has been forged from 316L stainless steel. The top of the case is sealed with a strong piece of glare-free sapphire crystal glass that is also incredibly scratch resistant. At the 3 o’clock location, the screw-down winding crown has been adorned with the DOXA logo whilst the caseback is also screwed in to protect the movement from any damage caused by moisture. The dial’s palpable vintage-inspired creamy beige surface makes for a great contrast against a set of orange-coloured hour and minute hands and a surrounding black track around the edge of the dial where the baton hour markers reside. The dial also features the DOXA name at 12 o’clock and a date window, dressed against a white background, at 3 o’clock.

The new DOXA Army watch measures a case width of 42.5mm and features a height of 11.95mm. It’s also powered by the ETA 2824 movement, which features a power reserve, once fully wound, of 38 hours. It performs at a rate of 28,800 vibrations per hour and comprises a total of 25 jewels. The watch is completed on a robust stainless steel beads-of-rice bracelet or a black or green-coloured FKM rubber strap with a stainless steel folding clasp that comes fitted with a wetsuit extension feature. Whether you choose the stainless steel bracelet or rubber band option, however, the DOXA Army watch also comes with an additional camouflage NATO-style strap to enjoy transforming the look of the watch as and whenever desired.
