U-Boat Unveils NEW Chimera Green Line Collection

From emerald to sage, lime to khaki, the colour green has become one of the luxury watch industry’s biggest trends for 2021. We’ve seen new designs decked out in the shade as well as classics reimagined. Italian watch manufacturer U-Boat opts for the latter, revealing a new and refurbished collection of U-Boat Chimera Green watches, each limited to 500 pieces dressed in naturally aged bronze or 316L stainless steel and paired with the iconic Chimera dial adorned with artful green accents.

As always, the new U-Boat collection is designed by the luxury watch brand’s founder Italo Fontana. In a villa surrounded by Gragnano’s hills, only 15 minutes away from Lucca’s old medieval town walls, in the heart of Tuscany, Fontana sits and imagines his next greatest masterpiece, taking inspiration from the surrounding landscape and his Italian heritage. For the U-Boat Chimera, he wanted capture his love of vintage culture with distressed strap designs, retro dials and masculine case profiles. With the new U-Boat Chimera Green, he took this vision one step further by embodying his own colourful and playful personality through inflections of green. Let’s take a look at the four new U-Boat Chimera Green watches.

U-Boat Chimera Green 8526

First up in the U-Boat Chimera Green collection is reference 8526. This 500-piece limited edition chronograph is engineered entirely from naturally aged bronze measuring to 46 millimetres in diameter and equipped with the patented crown-release system placed at 8 o'clock, a feature characteristic of the Chimera that allows you to facilitate time and date changes.  The case is also kitted out with a matching bronze bezel and case back and an oversized crown cap for easier grip. At the centre, a dual-layered matte brown dial is laser cut with numerals, indices and counters and decorated with a vivid green chronograph seconds hand and green hands for the 24 hour subsidiary dial. The dial is protected by domed sapphire crystal glass treated with anti-reflective coating. Housed within the U-Boat Chimera Green 8526 watch, an automatic movement processed and modified according to U-BOAT specifics with a custom skeletonised rotor viewable through the sapphire crystal case back and equipped with a frequency of 28,800vph and a power reserve of 48 hours. To complete the look of this bronze U-Boat Chimera watch is a distressed brown leather strap which has been handmade in Tuscany by expert craftsman.

U-Boat Chimera Green 8527

The second and last bronze piece in the U-Boat Chimera Green collection is reference 8527. Unlike its bronze companion above, this 500-piece limited edition delivers a more classic time, date and GMT display with two large sword-shaped hands for hours and minutes in bronze, a sleek seconds hand in green, a 24-hour subsidiary dial also decorated in green hands and a curved date aperture at 9 o’clock. These functions are once again powered by an automatic winding movement this time considerate of a 48 hour power reserve, 26 rubies and a 28,800vph frequency. Like all the U-Boat Chimera Green watches, reference 8527 measures to 46 millimetres in diameter and features a stunning exhibition sapphire crystal case back where you can see the movement through a U-shaped opening. The dial is again dual-layered but this time in black with brushed metal finishes and laser cut hands and the patented crown release system is placed at 10 o’clock water resistant to 100 metres. The bronze case is then paired with another brown aged leather strap and a bronze pin buckle.

U-Boat Chimera Green 8528

Next up is the U-Boat Chimera Green watch under reference 8528. This is the first 500-piece limited edition in the collection to be engineered from steel. Other than this, it pretty much follows all the same specifications as the 8526 chronograph above. It’s 46 millimetre case is engineered from AISI 316L stainless steel with the iconic over-sized crown cap and patented crown-release system placed at 8 o'clock. The five-screws case back again delivers a peek into the automatic winding movemnet which provides markers for hours, minutes, seconds, chronograph, date and 24 hours and a power reserve of 48 hours. Contrasting against the matte black dual layered dial, green marks the chronograph seconds hand and the hands on the 24 hour subsidiary dial. As expected, the U-Boat Chimera Green 8528 is water resistant to 100 metres, ensures instant legibility with curved sapphire crystal glass treated with anti-reflective coating and secures to the wrist by an aged black laser cut leather strap and stainless steel pin buckle.

U-Boat Chimera Green 8529

Last but not least is the U-Boat Chimera Green watch under reference 8529. I’m sure you’ve already worked out the pattern here, but this model follows almost exactly in the footsteps of the bronze reference 8527 but is dressed in stainless steel. Again, it is a limited edition of 500 pieces and comes with a patented crown-release system placed at 10 o'clock to facilitate time and date setting. This time, the crown, bezel, case back and case are engineered from AISI 316L stainless steel while a black dial and black leather strap complete the masculine aesthetic. Housed within the U-Boat Chimera Green 8529 watch is another Swiss automatic winding movement delivering hours, minutes, seconds, date and 24 hour time with green accents found on the latter complication and on the large central running seconds hand. The movement promises a 48 hour power reserve and is equipped with a custom skeletonised rotor housed beneath the five-screwed down case back with a U-shape exhibition opening. A 100 metre water resistant rating is guaranteed, and high quality dome curved sapphire glass treated with anti-reflective coating ensures quick readability.
