Exploring the Maurice Lacroix Eliros 25th Anniversary Limited Editions

Twenty five years of the elegant and simple Maurice Lacroix Eliros watch marks the release of two celebratory timepieces – the Eliros 25th Anniversary Limited Edition watches. The silver and blue dial versions are exclusive to just 500 pieces each.

I can’t actually recall any watches from the year 1996 – not directly anyway. I was much too young. In fact, I’d probably only learnt to tell the time properly by then. But what I know now is that 1996 was the year of the iconic Vacheron Constantin Overseas watch. It was the birth year of Parmigiani Fleurier.  It was also the year that the resolutely simple and elegant Eliros watch from Maurice Lacroix was born. Two and a half decades have passed since then. The world has changed in ways unimaginable. But it hasn’t changed its view on the Eliros watch. Collectors still love its timelessness. They love its purist dial and its palpable colours too. And so – that calls for celebration. A celebration of success in the form of the Maurice Lacroix Eliros 25th Anniversary Limited Edition watch.

To really appreciate the beauty of the Maurice Lacroix Eliros series and in particular, its 25th anniversary limited edition model, an understanding of the watch’s design and its success so far is necessary.

The Maurice Lacroix Eliros

Maurice Lacroix was born in 1975 and is still considered a relatively young manufacturer compared to those that have been around for centuries. But what it lacks in age it certainly makes up for in expertise. When the Eliros was released, it featured serene dial colours and flowing, subtle curves. This was an effortlessly beautiful timepiece with a distinctly classic style. Over time, Maurice Lacroix has expanded the range and now offers the Eliros in various styles, coloured and features. There are moon phase indicators, chronograph versions, and simple three-handed date models to choose from. These sit among many colour iterations too, including smoked green dials with rose gold plated cases and mother of pearl moon phase dials on mesh steel bracelets. The Maurice Lacroix Eliros collection is known for its colourful dials and its perfectly rounded cases – characteristics that have remained fashionable over decades. Now it is time for a white and a blue lacquered dial in the form of the new Maurice Lacroix Eliros 25th Anniversary Limited Edition watch, each exclusive to just 500 pieces worldwide.

The new Maurice Lacroix 25th Anniversary Limited Edition watches

To mark the launch of the limited edition celebratory model, Maurice Lacroix released a beautiful promotional video starring Swiss dance duo Dakota & Nadia. The professional dancers used contemporary dance to reiterate the design language of the Eliros watch, with brightly coloured smoke adding mystery and visual illusions to reflect the limited edition model and its versatility.

The white dial and blue dial options differ only slightly. The Eliros 25th anniversary limited edition watch ref: EL1118-SS00E-120-C with a white dial features blued accents seen in the hour track and hands whilst the blue iteration ref: EL1118-SS00E-420-C features silver-toned accents. Both watches offer a date aperture at 3 o’clock and their hour tracks are represented in a mix of Arabic numerals and stick markers, styled faithfully in the Eliros way. Both of the watches also come fitted on a stainless steel mesh bracelet but there is an additional blue calf leather strap with white contrast stitching that can be purchased alongside each watch. The leather strap can be manually swapped over by the wearer since both the new Maurice Lacroix Eliros watches come integrated with the brand’s innovative ‘Easy Strap Exchange’ system. This eradicates the need to use any tools to switch the strap over, enabling you as the wearer to transform the look of the wrist quickly and easily.

The two new white and blue Maurice Lacroix Eliros 25th Anniversary Limited Edition watches features a beautifully rounded stainless steel case measuring a 40mm diameter. The cases are 50-meter water-resistant and feature a crown at the 3 o’clock location, together with an anti-reflective glass lens crafted from sapphire crystal. The back of the case is engraved with the ‘25th Anniversary Edition’ lettering along with a unique number depicting the limited edition piece.

Whilst the Milanese style steel bracelet certainly donates a vintage charm to the wrist, other design elements also hark back to a bygone era. The Arabic numerals, for example, boast an almost Bauhaus-style typography and the minute track around the outer edge has been made incredibly discreet to promote a minimalist layout. The Maurice Lacroix Eliros 25th Anniversary Limited Edition watches are both powered by a quartz movement which takes care of basic seconds, minutes, hours and date functions.

Two other Eliros interpretations have been released by Maurice Lacroix alongside these 500-piece models. The two Eliros Date watches are a pink dial with a steel case and pink leather band, and a black dial with a black coated steel case and black leather band. The leather straps are executed in the same fashion as the blue calfskin strap option for the limited edition watch and feature the metal Maurice Lacroix logo fixed onto the band below the southern hemisphere of the case.
