The new Louis Erard “Horror” x seconde/seconde/ Watch

For the second time running, Louis Erard collaborates with seconde/seconde/ to create the Louis Horror limited edition timepiece, exclusive to just 178 pieces worldwide. The two-handed dial features a small second sub-scale adorned with an illuminating ghost that rotates within its 6 o’clock dungeon.

Arguably one of the most captivating styles of watch developed by Louis Erard, the Excellence watch collection has gained global recognition for its elegant blued steel hands and its whimsical-come-classic persona. The Louis Erard Excellence watch collection was first released to commemorate the brand’s 80th anniversary. Some of the most popular family members are the moonphase automatic version and the brand’s segmented two-hander models. Now the watchmaker welcomes another member to its family. The Louis “Horror” x seconde/seconde/ limited edition watch.

Over the years Louis Erard has created some exceptional timepieces designed in collaboration with the likes of Albert Silberstein and Paris-based watch modifier seconde/seconde/. The latter led to the release of the Louis “Error” watch last year. The Internet HTTP protocol “404 Error“-themed reference featured the bold blue Error reference following the Louis name at 3 o’clock alongside an unmissable blue panel stretching from southwest to northeast bearing the 404 Error code across its surface. The Louis Erard x seconde/seconde/ watch collaboration combines the digital nature of the theme with a design celebrating humour and taboos. Reminding us that the watchmaker doesn’t take itself too seriously is the new Louis “Horror” x seconde/seconde/ watch - another humorous model that plays on words and comes just in time for the season associated with spooks and ghouls.

The new Louis “Horror” x seconde/seconde/ watch signifies the second time that the two independent companies have crossed paths. Thinking outside the box, Louis Erard resisted the urge to create a “skeletonised” dial for fear of it being too horological. Instead, it opts for a ghoul on the hand of the small second sub-counter at 6 o’clock, which rotates as the hand travels across the miniature scale displaying the running seconds. The pixelated ectoplasm creates a fun and dynamic digital look that feels a touch urban too and swallows the second hand as it does so. The surrounding space within the small second scale represents a dungeon with its snailed effect surface within a diamond-cut zone.

The new Louis “Horror” x seconde/seconde/ watch features a silver opaline dial with a circular satin-finished zone depicting the hour track. The anthracite indexes within this track are glossy and crisply carved to enhance readability underneath their protective canopy of sapphire crystal glass. The segmented design of the dial is home to the famous Louis Erard logo albeit with the “Erard” reference now replaced with the “Horror” lettering in a bright blood-red colour. The polished anthracite central hour and minute hands are finished in the brand’s signature fir tree style, whilst the ghost motif for the small seconds illuminates richly in the dark, glowing in green Super-LumiNova material.

The new Louis “Horror” x seconde/seconde/ watch is a limited edition run of 178 pieces worldwide. Its stainless steel case is perfectly round and measures a diameter of 39mm rendering it a perfect option for those with a slender wrists. The thickness of the case measures a depth of 12.25mm – enough to hold a reliable Sellita movement inside. Surrounding the exhibition feature on the back of the case is a “Limited Edition 1 of 178” engraving upon its stainless steel frame, whilst the crown located at 3 o’clock on the case is adorned with the brand’s signature fir tree emblem.
