Seiko Launches Style 60's Road Trip GMT Watches

Petrol blue, stone and fume are the three chosen colours by Seiko for the new Road Trip GMT version of the already-popular Style 60s watch collection, inspired by iconic 1960s cars.

If you’re partial to a vintage sports watch or two, you will have explored Seiko’s innovative range of Style 60s watches. The collection was first released back in 2021 and offered fans an appealing price range combined with elegant retro touches that evoke iconic cars of the 1960s. The watch was first offered in a time-and-date version or an open-heart iteration but soon grew to accommodate more styles and functions including a choice of bold colours and versions equipped with power reserve indicators. Now the GMT version arrives, presented in a stunning petrol blue colour reference SSK009, a stone colour reference SSK011 and a fume colour reference SSK013.

The new Seiko Style 60s Road Trip GMT watches belong to the Presage family – a more classic and elegant spin on the Prospex line. The Style 60s watches are loosely inspired by the 1964 Crown Chronograph – both Seiko and Japan’s first chronograph wristwatch. The reference to the “Road Trip” words in its name point to the colour schemes, components and wheels of vintage cars that aesthetically add to the mechanically impressive design of the Style 60s watch.

Each of the new Seiko Presage Style 60s Road Trip GMT watches is powered by the mechanical Calibre 4R34, which performs at a rate of 21,600 vibrations per hour and offers a power reserve of 41 hours once fully wound. The movement is held inside a relatively compact case with a slim bezel, thin lugs and a domed Hardlex crystal glass top. The models all measure a 40.8mm diameter and feature a mix of brushed and flat surfaces with polished sides. In previous models, we have seen a monochromatic bezel, but now Seiko switches that feature out for a two-tone aluminium insert that displays a 24-hour scale in contrasting shades – black for the evening hours and dark grey for the daytime hours. The GMT hand on all three watches is characterised by a triangular-shaped point as seen in many GMT watches on the market.  The crown at 3 o’clock on the steel case of the new Style 60s watch from Seiko is not screwed in but the case does offer a 50-meter water resistance. The GMT hand is independently altered in one-hour increments, making the watch a perfect companion for tracking a time zone whilst at work or in the office.

The chapter ring around the edge of each of the three new Seiko Presage Style 60s Road Trip GMT watches is done in a contrasting colour depending on each model. The applied faceted markers show the hour of the day with a crisp and meticulous finish, interacting with the light as it hits the surface of the dial. These hour markers have also received a layer of luminous material to assist with timekeeping in dark conditions. The petrol blue version of the new Seiko Presage Style 60s Road Trip GMT watch is fitted on a stainless steel bracelet with a mix of brushed and polished finishes and a folding clasp that bears the famous manufacturer’s logo upon its surface. The stone version has matching silver accents along with a date window that is seen at the 3 o’clock location (as do the other two models) and is fitted on a black perforated leather strap with a stainless steel folding buckle. The fume dial is also fitted on the same black leather band, creating a casually elegant look on the wrist. Whether you opt for the fume, the stone or the petrol blue version of the new Seiko Presage Style 60s Road Trip GMT watch, you’re given the chance to enjoy the performance of the movement through a see-through caseback. This feature alone constitutes yet another great selling point of the affordable Seiko Presage watch series.
