Reviewing the Oris Diver’s Sixty-Five 12H Calibre 400 Watch

One advantage that we do promise our loyal watch enthusiasts here at Jura Watches is exclusive access to all the latest and most exciting watch release details following the annual Geneva Watch Days event in the Swiss horological capital. This includes the new Oris Diver’s Sixty-Five 12H Calibre 400 watch, newly released from the famous Swiss red rotor brand.

Amongst much awaited news on many of our best-selling luxury watch brands, Oris unveils its release of the new Diver’s Sixty-Five 12H Calibre 400. It’s the first serial produced Diver’s Sixty-Five watch to house Oris’ in-house developed Calibre 400. Apart from this new model, the Calibre 400 has already featured in limited editions of the Diver’s Sixty-five line after initially launching in the Aquis Date family. The new addition to the Diver’s Sixty-Five line enables you to track home and local time whilst travelling, with its new bidirectional rotating bezel equipped with 12 hour markers.

Let’s be clear the new Oris Diver’s Sixty-Five 12H Calibre 400 model is not classified as a GMT watch but what it does offer is a low-key albeit practical way to track a second time zone with an innovative bezel marked with 12 one-hour markers. The bezel moves bidirectionally and thus is not a dive bezel as such, but does feature 12 individual hour markers. To track a second time zone, simply align the difference of your new destination with the zero part on the bezel and you can easily track two different time zones at once. For example, if you’re away on business and two hours ahead of your home time, you can adjust the bezel 20 clicks to be able to track the time of the location you’re currently at by reading the hour and minute hands on the dial, whilst still tracking time back at home by reading the hour and minute hand against the bezel. Aside from this useful feature, the rest of the elements of the Oris Diver’s Sixty-Five watch remain the same, except for the new Calibre 400, of course.

The dial of the new Oris Diver’s Sixty-Five 12H Calibre 400 watch is nice and straightforward. The matte black display is home to hand-applied hour markers and a set of highly-readable hands that have all been treated with a layer of Super-LumiNova. The dial features a date window, matched in the same colour as the dial, at 6 o’clock.

Size-wise, the new Oris watch release for 2022 measures a diameter of 40mm and a depth of 12.8mm. The stainless steel case of the watch is integrated with 100-meter water resistance and has been topped with a strong piece of anti-reflective and scratch-resistant sapphire crystal glass. The watch is offered on a stainless steel bracelet with a folding clasp engraved with the Oris logo upon its surface, or a classic-looking black calf leather strap with a stainless steel buckle. The back of the case features a sapphire crystal glass exhibition feature, so you do get to admire the mechanical performance of the Oris Calibre 400 whilst in motion by flipping the watch over to reveal its underside.

At the time when the Calibre 400 was released, it offered a completely new architecture. Featuring a silicone escape wheel, a ten year warranty, an anti-magnetic structure, silicon anchor and a recommendation of ten year service intervals, plus a 120-hour power reserve, it makes for an incredibly good value-for-money proposition and far exceeds what any other similar movement from the likes of Sellita or ETA could offer.

To summarise, the new Oris Diver’s Sixty-Five 12H Calibre 400 watch is a pretty neat tool to own. Not only does it retain the retro feel and look of the popular diver’s watch design, based on an important release in Oris’ heritage, but it now offers the pretty rare 12-hour bezel – a feature we are seeing less and less of these days. Paired with the fact that this watch can be worn on a classic stainless steel bracelet or a smart black leather strap, you have the option to choose a style that is right for you and still get to enjoy all its old (and new) features. Of course, without a unidirectional diving bezel, this version of the Diver’s  Sixty-five watch may not be the first choice for serious underwater exploration, but then again, we have the Oris Aquis series for that!
