NEW Junghans Max Bill Kleine Automatic Watches

To celebrate 60 years since the original Junghans Max Bill, the luxury German watch manufacturer has announced the release of four new Junghans Max Bill Kleine Automatic watches. Identical in size to the early 1961 model, the new releases beautifully commemorate six decades of exceptional watch design alongside contemporary automatic winding movements, purist dials and slim stainless steel and gold PVD profiles.

The Junghans Max Bill watch is a design that commands respect across a number of disciplines. It’s release in 1961 was largely influential to both Junghans’ future in design and the watchmaking industry as a whole, serving a minimalistic, well-balanced aesthetic deserving of the only the highest praise. Max Bill, the legendary artist, painter and architect, was originally commissioned to design a Junghans wall clock but its appeal became so popular that a range of wristwatches based on the aesthetic were released five years later. Despite the Junghans Max Bill turning 60 years old, it remains as current as ever as shown by the new Junghans Max Bill Kleine Automatic watch collection.

There are four new Junghans Max Bill Kleine Automatic watches to choose from, each identical in their proportions and movement but dissimilar in their case materials and dial designs. The first two in the collection are dressed in stainless steel and showcase simple matte-silver plated dials home to minimalist indexes and environmentally-friendly luminous hands. The first of the two under reference 27/4105.02 arrives on a black calfskin leather strap while the second reference 27/4106.46 comes on a stunning Milanese style stainless steel bracelet.

The latter two Junghans Max Bill Kleine Automatic watches are still handsomely purist in their design but deliver a slightly busier dial design with Arabic numerals, a detailed 60 minute scale and environmentally-friendly luminous hands. The third reference 27/4107.02 has a familiar matte-silver plated dial, a stainless steel case and a comfortable brown calfskin leather strap. The fourth variant (27/7108.02) differs the most, dressed in yellow gold PVD coated stainless steel with a soft grey dial and a grey calfskin leather strap to match.

All four Junghans Max Bill Kleine Automatic watches measure to 34mm in diameter, the precise size of the original Max Bill watch from 1961 alongside some new contemporary improvements including a 30 metre water resistant rating and scratch resistant sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective treatment. Another welcome upgrade is the self-winding movement. Initially, Max Bill conceived his watch as a hand-winding model but the new collection, alongside others in the modern-day Junghans Max Bill range, are now equipped with the J800.1 calibre. The movement delivers central hands for hours, minutes and seconds, a date window at 3 o’clock and a power reserve of 38 hours.
