Meet the new TAG Heuer Carrera Day Date Watches

The new Carrera Day-Date watches from TAG Heuer in a deep sunray blue and black azurage dial option both measure a 41mm diameter and have been crafted from stainless steel. Powered by the reliable Calibre 5 and completed on matching coloured alligator leather straps, these new variants of the Carrera series are sure to appeal to the masses with their classic style and comfortable size

Why do we care so much for the Carrera?

The TAG Heuer Carrera watch collection is home to some seriously beautiful watches. Ageless and pared back, they constitute the perfect companion for all manner of occasions, be that the office, a round of golf at the weekend, a business meeting or a sophisticated evening event. As one of TAG Heuer’s most popular collections, the watches from the Carrera line have easy-to-read dials, some of which evoke the dashboards of race cars, whilst others are powered by reliable in-house movements. The Carrera watch was first released by TAG Heuer in 1963 and has remained an industry icon ever since. Whilst the three-handed models are simple and promote a great sense of clarity across a range of different coloured dials, the chronographs are particularly sporty and are respected for their precision. Designed by Jack Heuer, the Carrera watch was named after the Carrera Panamericana rally, which ran throughout the famous streets of Mexico.

Within the Carrera watch collection are the Heuer 01 and Heuer 02 series – the latter of which is an in-house movement. Thanks to the versatility of these watches with modular constructions, the variations of watch designs and styles became limitless to TAG Heuer. In 2022, TAG Heuer celebrated a couple of anniversaries, giving the brand plenty of excuses to re-visit the Carrera watch and give it a little makeover of its own. These new Carrera watches marked the 60th anniversary of the Swiss brand with two models; the Carrera 160 Years Anniversary and the 160 Years Silver watch. Recently I covered the TAG Heuer Carrera Porsche watch, which you can read about here. It’s a sportier take on the classic Carrera and proves particularly popular with race car enthusiasts. Also released earlier this year were two TAG Heuer Carrera Day Date models with a 41mm diameter in a deep blue sunray dial and a rich black azurage dial. Let’s take a closer look at these models today…

The new TAG Heuer Carrera Day Date Calibre 5 41mm watches in blue and black

The focus of the new 2022 TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 5 Day Date watches is “legibility at all times”. Experts at TAG Heuer choose to treat the hands and indexes of the dial with a generous coating of white Super-LumiNova, which grows in a rich hue in the dark. These faceted hour markers, placed against their respective blue and black dials catch the light with each slight turn of the wrist promoting clarity all day every day. The 12 o’clock location on the hour track is represented by a double baton formation. Whilst all other remaining hour markers are represented by one singular baton hour marker. The hands are designed in a similar shape with a slight tapering point. The second hand glides effortlessly across the surface of the dial, visiting the TAG Heuer lettering and logo at 12 o’clock every 60 seconds. Clear and concise is the day-date feature located at 3 o’clock. Housed inside their own separate windows but connected down the middle, the numerals and letters depicting the days of the week and the date are set against a bright white background in the blue dial version and a matching black background for the black dial version.

All of the features seen on the dials of the new 41mm TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 5 watches in blue and black are fitted with a domed scratch-resistant sapphire crystal glass front, treated with anti-reflective technology upon its surface. The glass is sealed to the top of the watch’s stainless steel case but is also incorporated into the back of the case, where a view of TAG Heuer’s peerlessly performing Calibre 5 can be admired in full working motion. The new Carrera Calibre 5 watches are incredibly urban and feature a mix of fine-brushed and polished finishes upon their cases. With a height of 12.37mm on the wrist, the case of the watch provides a strong and robust 100-meter water-resistant housing for the automatic movement to perform inside.

The TAG Heuer Calibre 5 movement powers a large number of the Swiss brand’s watches. Based on the ETA 2824-2, it’s a trustworthy engine that has a power reserve of 42 hours to offer, plus a performance frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. Its Cotes de Geneve decoration can be admired through the back of the watch’s sapphire exhibition feature. Although not COSC-certified, the movement promises an accuracy of -4 sec to +6 sec per day.

The new TAG Heuer Carrera Day-Date watch reference WBN2013.FC6503 has a stunning black azurage dial adorned with 18ct 5N-plated rose gold hour markers and hands and completes its look on a matching black alligator leather strap with a steel folding clasp and push-button release mechanism. The blue dial watch reference: WBN2012.FC6502 features silver-coloured hour markers and hands and a matching deep blue alligator leather band with the same clasp.

The Carrera watch collection by TAG Heuer is a really diverse range of instruments that comprises models powered by the Calibre 16 and 17 (based on ETA and valjoux movements), watches powered by the Seiko-based Calibre 1887, GMT and Tourbillon models belonging to the Heuer 01 and Heuer 02 range, gold limited editions, Porsche Chronograph versions, the Carrera 160 Year editions, three-handed models, and the Vintage Carrera 30/45 watches.
