Meet the Maurice Lacroix Aikon Quartz 2022 Watches

Maurice Lacroix has released a slew of three new men’s 40mm quartz-powered Aikon watches and four new women’s 35mm versions – each one featuring the recognisable bezel arms and a sporty integrated metal bracelet

Lending to the iconic design of the Maurice Lacroix Aikon watch is its 1970s-inspired avant-garde styling. The collection is home to automatics, chronographs, skeletonised models and quartz-powered watches like the ones we’re going to look at in more detail today. Swiss watchmaker, Maurice Lacroix has never been shy about its aspirations to produce an icon in the design of the Aikon watch. The sporty, elegant model combines the look of two world-leading designs – the Royal Oak watch from Audemars Piguet and the Patek Philippe Nautilus but for a more affordable price. This, in part, is why the Maurice Lacroix Aikon remains such a popular, modern-day collectable. The sports watch has been released in various forms including limited edition chronographs, mother-of-pearl and diamond-set iterations, and models with a diving bezel, not to mention a range of quartz Aikon watches, like the seven models we’re going to look at here.

The new Maurice Lacroix Aikon Quartz watches for 2022 have arrived simultaneously alongside a skeletonised model that I recently wrote about here. It showed the performance of a reliable Sellita movement through its sapphire dial in an open-worked iteration crafted from stainless steel with an integrated steel bracelet and the brand’s special Easy Change strap technology.

Before 2016, the Maurice Lacroix Aikon watch was known as the Calypso. It incorporated many desirable features of the popular steel sports watch era, creating a legend of its own. In 2016 the Calypso was taken back to the drawing board by Maurice Lacroix experts, who gave it an update with several modifications and released it under the new name of the Aikon. Some distinguishable features of the Aikon watch include its six claws located on the surface of its bezel and its integrated bracelet design. Detail can be found in the dial of the Aikon watch also, where a stunning Clous de Paris technique brings to life a range of coloured sun-brushed dials.

The seven recent quartz-powered Maurice Lacroix Aikon watches to join the line come in two different sizes - three 40mm versions for men and four new women’s watches measuring a diameter of 35mm. The range also offers unisex 39mm models like the skeletonised Aikon automatic watch I mentioned earlier. You can check this model out online at Jura Watches here. The three men’s Aikon Quartz watches come in three different dial colours; green, blue and black. The same blue and black options are offered in the women’s size, alongside two bi-colour options crafted from stainless steel and yellow gold PVD – both with silver dials. One features a diamond-set bezel, the other is unadorned for a simpler pared-back look. All four of these ladies’ Aikon watches mirror the same three-handed display as seen in the men’s range, with a white date aperture located on each dial at 3 o’clock.

The cases of these new Maurice Lacroix Aikon Quartz watches are finished in a mix of polished and brushed effects, giving them a sense of depth and enabling the chiselled aesthetic of the case to pick up the light with each slight movement of the wrist. The green dial 40mm version is the more daring and dramatic model of the new range, whilst the blue enhances the sporty accents of the watch’s iconic profile. The black model is a reserved and classic option for pairing with office attire or a professional suit, whilst the silver evokes a timeless style that will compliment any wardrobe. Likewise, the two bi-colour versions of the women’s Maurice Lacroix Aikon Quartz range are more luxurious – the diamond-studded model - resolutely glamorous. The black and blue models are sportier, each one offering a clear glance into the dial via a crisp, scratch-resistant sapphire glass front treated with anti-reflective technology.

The new Maurice Lacroix Aikon Quartz watches for 2022 have a decidedly clean-cut appearance. The sports models have been redesigned by brand experts, giving each timepiece an even more distinguishable look where every curve, line, facet and surface has been carefully applied to well-proportioned measurements. The sun-brushed dial of each new Aikon watch is home to faceted central hands that have been rhodium coated and treated with a layer of Super-LumiNova. The hour markers are incredibly slim, framed by an upraised outer section where the minutes can be read. Underneath the strong pane of sapphire crystal glass is the date window residing at 3 o’clock on each model, set against a white background to enhance the legibility of its crisp black numerals.

Each quartz-powered Aikon watch is also integrated with 100-meter water resistance and is fitted on an integrated stainless steel bracelet with links executed in a mix of brushed and polished finishes. The butterfly buckle is adorned with the Maurice Lacroix logo and the watch offers the brand's special Easy Change strap system. By simply squeezing four discreet catches – two at a time – the bracelet is detached from the head and can be swapped for one of the brand’s colourful rubber or leather bands to easily transform the look of the sports watch without the need for any tools.
