When the smoke is finished – the essence remains. Amidst the excitement of Watches and Wonders 2022 – one thing is for certain – the new solid design of the BR 05 Chrono Edicion Limitada watch, exclusive to just 250 pieces, is a timepiece for enjoying day-in, day-out.
Having come a long way in a relatively small period of time, Bell & Ross is still considered a young brand, yet has gone on to secure itself a position amongst some of the industry’s top aviation watch manufacturers of all time. The BR 01 watch collection by Bell & Ross is undoubtedly one of its most popular designs to date and was originally forged from the “clock in a cockpit” concept. It successfully bridged the gap between a rugged military device and a traditional tool when it first launched in 1992, featuring the notable circular bezel within a square-shaped case. The style of the BR 01 and BR 03 was adopted by the later BR 05 range. Appreciated for its own merits, the BR 05 series from Bell & Ross was released back in 2019 and split into categories; the BR 05 GMT, the BR 05 Chrono and the BR 05 Auto. Now, in time for the annual Watches and Wonders Geneva event 2022, Bell & Ross releases the new BR 05 Chrono Edicion Limitada watch – a timepiece intended for cigar lovers.
Cigars are often associated with celebration and victory. An excuse to mark a milestone in life – the birth of a baby, a special age reached, or a wedding maybe. They’re also the type of luxury item you pull out when you sit under the stars with a lifelong friend and put the world to rights. And if you don’t have that privilege, the cigar will be your friend who listens. This Bell & Ross BR 05 Chrono watch is part of another important collection, however. It’s the third edition of a limited series following the BR Vintage 126 XL Edición Limitada released in 2006 and the WW1 Edición Limitada released in 2015, inspired by some of the first wristwatches from WWI.
The new Bell & Ross BR 05 Chrono Edicion Limitada watch
The new Bell & Ross BR 05 Chrono Edicion Limitada watch is a more urban and technical wristwatch that boasts the familiar warm tones of this series with a rose gold case and indulgent brown-coloured dial. Akin to the way in which luxury watch enthusiasts and cigar aficionados will gravitate towards a fine wine or whisky, the cigar-inspired wristwatch harks back to the handmade Cuban cigars of Havana. Based on the sport-chic style of the BR 05 watch, this new Bell & Ross cigar-inspired timepiece is limited to 250 pieces worldwide and is the first of the Edicion Limitada range to feature the circle-within-a-square profile. Similar to the BR 03 models, it features four screws around the edges of the case and an integrated strap.
The new Bell & Ross BR 05 Chrono Edicion Limitada watch measures a diameter of 42mm and has been crafted from satin-finished and polished stainless steel with an 18ct rose gold bezel. The case is integrated with 100-meter water resistance and features a scratch-resistant and anti-reflective sapphire crystal glass front, along with a transparent caseback to observe the beautiful 360° oscillating weight of the Bell & Ross BR-CAL-301. The movement produces a power reserve of 42 hours and performs at rate of 28,800 vibrations per hour.
Inspired predominantly by the Robusto Maduro cigar, the watch takes into careful consideration the colour of the cigar’s wrapper and its shape. The thick, short Robusto Maduro cigar is defined by its square tip in the shape of this BR 05 Chrono watch. Brown, pink and deep red tones reiterate the cigar’s dark brown wrapper finished with a red and gold ring. The dial of the watch is represented in a luxurious matte brown canvas adorned with gold chronograph counter edges at 3 and 9 o’clock depicting the small second and 30-minute functions. The stopwatch hand, the chronograph minute hand, and “Edicion Limitada” lettering written in Spanish are all finished in red, separating the elements and different functions on the dial perfectly. Lastly, the minute and hour hands of the new BR 05 Chrono Edicion Limitada watch are treated with Super-LumiNova to assist with timekeeping in the dark and are framed by a golden minute track and two oversized golden Arabic numerals at 12 and 6 o’clock. A date window is nestled between the 4 and 5 o’clock locations.
The new Bell & Ross BR 05 Chrono Edicion Limitada watch is certainly a way of life. An urban watch that meets the needs and desires of the urban 21st-century male.
