Hands-on with the TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 Sports Edition

The Connected Calibre E4 watch from TAG Heuer launched a little over a year ago and remains the latest generation of Connected watches from the La Chaux-de-Fonds-based watchmaker. Distinguished by a new sporty, elegant style, the smartwatches came with eye-catching chronograph-inspired dials, new Sport activity features, an innovative Wellness app and two sizes to choose from – a redesigned 45mm model and an entirely new 42mm model. Just a year on, TAG Heuer has revealed another slew of Connected Calibre E4 watches with the words “Sport Edition” in their name. They mark a few new features worth mentioning, especially if you’re in the market for a new smartwatch that can help you with hiking stats and general fitness.

Aside from a smaller case size, slimmer bezel and an overall thinner case, the TAG Heuer Connected E4 watches released back in 2022 came with plenty of innovative features to enjoy and were also offered in the larger 45mm size. The new TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 Sports Edition watches also take this larger 45mm size and have been crafted from black DLC-coated titanium for a lightweight finish on the wrist. Additionally, they boast blue, orange and red accents. Their app-related features still include the following; Sports Watch App with Running, Cycling, Swimming, Fitness, Golf, and Wellness features, along with micro apps that include a stopwatch, timer, and alarm. Sensors built into the design of the watch include; a heart rate monitor, compass, accelerometer, gyroscope, NFC, microphone, and barometer, but read on to discover the added features of the new TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 Sports Edition watches…

TAG Heuer’s new Connected sports feature

As with the existing line of Connected Calibre E4 watches, these new TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 Sports Edition watches enable you as the wearer to track your fitness routine, either by uploading your own personal workout and following it on-screen or by following a pre-programmable workout routine. You can tailor a workout to your personal needs by selecting a guided workout with lengths that can be pre-set.

A legible display and longer battery life

The design of the TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 Sports Edition watch is particularly suited to the great outdoors, just like the 2022 models, since its screen stays visible, even when used under direct sunlight. The strong contrast and high-fidelity colour composition of the OLED dial are combined with longer battery life, promising a 30% increase (for the 45mm version) in power length compared to previous generations.

An altimeter sensor

TAG experts equipped the Connected Calibre E4 45mm model with a new altimeter sensor last year, which can now work alongside pre-existing features like the heart rate monitor, GPS module, gyroscope, barometer, compass, NFC chip and, of course, the accelerometer. The addition of the new altimeter sensor enables better tracking of outdoor sports like running and cycling.

Also, at night, you can take the TAG Heuer Connected watch off and position it on the brand’s new nightstand, which glows discreetly during the darkest hours, displaying accurate time. This stand is not just purely for artistically mounting your watch as a focal point, but it also acts as a power charging point for the watch. The full charging time for the smartwatch is 90 minutes, and a battery charging indicator is shown on the charging stand to let you know when the Connected Calibre E4 watch is ready to be worn again.

What’s new for the TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 Sports Edition watches?

And now we get to it. The new features of the sleek, lightweight and incredibly stylish, fitness-oriented TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 Sport Edition watches

New Trail & Hiking software

TAG Heuer adds a suite of upgraded sports monitoring software to the Sports Edition watch that builds on existing software to offer more data tracking and monitoring. The new Trail & Hiking software uses the watch’s built-in barometer to utilize it much better than before. Raising the game for competitors and keeping in line with what the brand’s audience wants and need from the new smartwatch, the software is also much more robust. Thanks to this, the software experience is much smoother and nicer to handle. Simply put, you can now enjoy monitoring your hike in more detail during a session by reviewing pace information and altitude differences whilst on the go using an additional screen solely dedicated to this.

New rubber ring around the crown

For a better grip under sweaty fingers whilst working out or enduring outdoor exercise, the new TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 Sports Edition watches now have a rubber ring added to their crowns. Maybe we’ll see improved water resistance over the coming years but for now, the watch promises the same 50-meter water resistance.

The straps

The new Connected Calibre E4 Sports Edition watches from TAG Heuer come with either a red, blue or orange central perforated section on their newly designed black rubber straps. These new rubber bands, as well as offering an added shot of colour to the wrist (to coincide with the 6 o’clock sub-counter on the dial) are also fitted with a new black coloured titanium pin buckle, lending themselves in a much more practical way compared to the bulkier deployment clasps of previous models.
