Hands-on with the Rowing Blazers x Zodiac Harry's Bar Super Sea Wolf Watch

The new Rowing Blazers x Zodiac Harry's Bar Super Sea Wolf Limited Edition watch is a collaborative effort between the famous Swiss watchmaker and the American clothing brand and design lab. It follows Rowing Blazer’s recent collaborative work with the famous cocktail bar, Harry’s Bar and boasts a stunning deep bottle green dial colour that nods to the bar’s many famous cocktails.

Ernest Hemingway, Coco Chanel, Morgan Freeman and Daft Punk have all used Harry’s Bar – a destination for distinguished expats and international celebrities since 1911. The oldest cocktail bar is located at “Sank Roo Doe Noo” in Paris and has been the focus of Jack Carlson’s cult brand Rowing Blazers, with an ongoing collaboration that now sees Zodiac get involved with the release of a new Super Sea Wolf watch. Set to be released in conjunction with a special event held at Harry’s Bar during the 2023 Paris Men’s Fashion Week this month, the new dive watch will be limited to just 282 pieces worldwide and will offer an eye-catching bottle green dial that pays tribute to the bar’s many world-famous cocktails, including the likes of the French 75, the Sidecar and the Bloody Mary to name just a few.

Over the decades, many a famous face has been spotted at Harry’s Bar, including James Bond during the filming of the “From a View to Kill” movie and George Gershwin who composed the “An American in Paris” orchestral piece whilst on the basement bar’s piano. One member of the International Bar Flies (or I.B.F.) secret society, founded by Harry’s Bar, is the founder and creative director of Rowing Blazers, Jack Carlson, who describes Harry’s Bar as: “…everything we aspire to be at Rowing Blazers: inclusive and unassuming, charmingly ridiculous, but with a hint of old-world glamour and a deep appreciation for history — all while remaining inventive, creative, and innovative. I’m excited to work with one of my favorite watch brands, Zodiac, to create this limited-edition watch celebrating one of my favorite bars. It’s rare and special to bring together three like-minded brands like this.”

Jack Coulson’s recent collaboration with Zodiac is not his first project with horology. The connection between Rowing Blazers and timepieces stems from two watches that Jack designed for Seiko back in 2021 and 2022 in partnership with Eric Wind. These two wristwatches sold out almost instantly, providing Jack with the perfect opportunity to pursue this niche line of work with this most recent collaboration with Zodiac.

The watch brand’s TJ McKnight explains: “Since our founding more than a century ago, we have dedicated ourselves to the precision and craftsmanship associated with Swiss timekeeping — with a rebellious spirit. We have consistently pushed the limits of design innovation, evolving our style and driving our timepieces to become more technical and dynamic. Our pursuit to create quality, precision Swiss watches that are made to be worn and lived in has been the fuel for some of our most beloved collections. As we create the next generation of tool, dive and dress watches, our engineers and artisans are already hard at work challenging boundaries and breaking rules.”

The 40mm stainless steel Rowing Blazers x Zodiac Harry's Bar Super Sea Wolf watch will feature the iconic "bar flies" cartoon logo upon its striking bottle green dial, which gives way to an hour track represented in baton markers. These indexes are treated with Super-LumiNova to assist with timekeeping in the dark whilst fixed underneath a strong piece of scratch-resistant sapphire crystal glass equipped with layers of anti-reflective technology. The chunky hour and minute hands of this new Zodiac Sea Wolf watch have also been filled with this same luminous material with a deep red securing element that anchors these hands into place, along with a luminous-tipped second hand. A rectangular-shaped date window at 3 o’clock with a tapering inner edge is filled in with black for added legibility and joins a minute track around the periphery of the display.

A unidirectional rotating black-filled bezel adds more dive qualities to this Rowing Blazers x Zodiac Harry's Bar Super Sea Wolf watch. The first 15 minutes are marked out clearly on the black surface of this bezel and its innovative design will turn only counter-clockwise to ensure that added time underwater cannot be accidentally added. Inside the strong stainless steel case of this new Zodiac Super Sea Wolf watch, integrated with 200-meter water resistance, is the automatic Calibre STP 1-11. Based on the Sellita SW200-1, it produces a 44-hour power reserve and performs at a rate of 28,800 vibrations per hour.

The new Rowing Blazers x Zodiac Harry's Bar Super Sea Wolf Limited Edition watch is also fitted on a 5-link stainless steel bracelet with a folding clasp. Additionally, you also get a French military-style #tide strap made from 100% recycled ocean plastic. To finish, Eric Wind adds: “Zodiac has always stood for fun, yet serious tool watches. The company’s vintage models, often featuring an amazing array of colors, are some of my favorite watches to collect and wear. The new Harry’s Bar Watch is our take on that tradition, with an eye-catching dial in a highly-wearable case. At Rowing Blazers, our approach to watches is to design models that bring people into the watch community and that will be heirlooms to be appreciated for generations to come. We couldn’t be more excited to have worked with Zodiac on this project and can’t wait to see this watch on the wrists of people around the world.”
