Bremont Races Ahead with new Jaguar C-Type Watch

The new Bremont Jaguar C-Type watch is a stunning addition to the British watchmaker’s classic range of motorsport-inspired wristwatches and has been designed with subtle elements inspired by the original 1950s racing car.
A curvy aerodynamic aluminium bodywork and sophisticated dual-overhead-cam 3.4 litre straight-six engine made the Jaguar XK120 C such an unmissable and unbeatable pioneering race car in 1951. It was inspired by the earlier 1948 Jaguar XK120 – the British manufacturer’s first post-war sports car initially showcased at The London Motor Show. You could say the rest is history, but that’s simply not the case, since Bremont continues to relive the elegance and sophistication of the Jaguar C-type car in the form of this newest addition to its Motorsport watch collection. Within this line, everything from the Henley-On-Thames-based watchmaker’s Williams F1 watch to the former Jaguar E-Type and D-type watches can be found, not to mention the brand’s stunning Bremont Norton watches. Now, the new Bremont Jaguar C-Type watch marks the next chapter for this popular collection of Bremont watches, honouring the world’s first-ever racing car to use pioneering brake disc technology.
The Jaguar C-Type race car had a recognisable fluidity to its aerodynamic profile and was designed by British Jaguar car designer, aerodynamicist and artist, Malcolm Sawyer. Reflecting this shape in its design, the new Bremont Jaguar C-Type watch echoes a fluid case shape whilst harnessing some key design elements that can also be appreciated amongst the brand’s earlier models from the same collection, such as the previous E-Type and D-Type watches. To create this effect, the curvature of its stainless steel case can be seen flowing into the lugs and the watch is topped with an aluminium bezel that reflects the aluminium bodywork of the car.
There’s also a multi-level effect going on with the dial. A silver-plated sunburst dial design is met with a brushed dial ring marked with a debossed Jaguar logo. The white sub-dials of the new Bremont Jaguar C-Type watch enhance readability for the wearer, as do the glossy black Arabic numerals presented around the hour track. Interestingly, Jaguar fans will appreciate the original Smiths gauges from the C-type car referenced in the form of the watch’s red accents on the 9 o’clock small second sub-dial. This feature marries perfectly with the central chronograph second hand, inspired by the needle seen on the original C-type tachymeter. In addition to these features, the dial of the new Bremont Jaguar C-Type watch features a 30-minute sub-counter at 3 o’clock and a date window at 6 o’clock, as well as the aforementioned black tachymeter bezel, ensuring the running mile can be precisely and accurately timed whenever the need arises, be that on or off the sidelines of the race track. The central hour and minute hands also glow in a rich blue emission, thanks to a generous helping of Super-LumiNova on the surface of each of these features.
Back to the case of the new Bremont Jaguar C-Type watch and the special Trip-Tick steel case construction is also adorned with a mix of brushed and polished finishes. In particular, the polished bevels of the crown and lugs are a nice touch in this design, the former of which has been adorned with the original Jaguar heritage Dunlop tyre tread. This same design element, if you’re familiar with previous Bremont Jaguar watches, can also be admired in these modes top. A decorative coin seen in the back of the steel case depicts the Jaguar ‘Growler’ hood badge, underscoring the direct references made to Jaguar’s legacy in this unique Bremont watch. On the front - a strong domed anti-reflective and scratch-resistant pane of sapphire crystal glass for optimum protection over the silver multi-layered dial.
Extending on the legendary Jaguar C-Type racing car of the 1950s and now, this new addition to Bremont’s hugely collectable Motorsport line, Giles English, Bremont Co-Founder explains: “The C-type is one of the most beautiful racing cars ever produced and is high up on my list of cars that I would most like to own, along with the D-type. We have enjoyed a special relationship with Jaguar over the past 14 years, working with them on various concept car clocks, supplying clocks for the Queen’s private fleet of Jaguars, as well as developing a wonderful series of watch designs honouring some of their most celebrated cars. Inside the new Bremont Jaguar C-Type watch is the modified BE-50AV automatic chronometer, which comprises 27 jewels, a Glucydur balance wheel, an Anachron balance spring and a Nivaflex mainspring. The movement performs at a rate of 28,800 vibrations per hour and delivers a power reserve, once fully wound, of 42 hours. The new Bremont Jaguar watch is also completed on a stylish tan brown leather racing strap that extends the model’s vintage-inspired design further.
