A Look at the Tissot PRX Automatic Green Watch

The Tissot PRX Automatic in green has a visually appealing deep emerald green colour and a detailed waffle effect surface that elevates the stylish steel sports watch persona that the PRX line has become so highly praised for in recent years.

Believe me when I say, there’s a Tissot PRX watch for everyone. It’s true because the line has grown since 2020 from a quartz-powered watch to an affordable automatic three-hander in 35mm and 42mm variations, plus a chronograph version most recently in a 42mm size. Last year, we received the PRX Automatic Green watch alongside a blue and black version and its textured dial (different to that of the quartz) was both legible and visually striking. Today, we’re having a quick look at the Tissot PRX Automatic Green watch in a 40mm size - a sporty integrated model that is still considered an incredibly popular addition to any Tissot fan’s collection.

Why is the Tissot PRX watch so popular?

When Tissot announced the arrival of the new PRX Quartz watch in 2022, it seemed to really impress the brand’s already dedicated fan base. First and foremost, it reimagined a popular design from the late 1970s. Secondly, it was affordable. Brought into a more modern 40mm size and fitted with an integrated steel bracelet, the Tissot PRX watch oozed sporty appeal, introducing a pioneering style that has historically been seen on the likes of Audemars Piguet Royal Oak watches and Patek Philippe Nautilus watches. The Tissot PRX watches were powered by quartz movements, crafted from stainless steel with an integrated bracelet and featured an easy-to-read dial that was modest and understated but classic at the same time.

In previous years (1978 to be exact) Tissot had already experienced success with an integrated bracelet watch on the design of the Seastar, yet when fitted on the PRX watch, the bracelet looked even more eye-catching against the model’s tonneau-shaped case. Its undeniably retro charm was an actual vibe and collectors loved it! The Seastar was replaced with the PRX models – the P standing for “precise”, the R standing for “robust” and the X representing the Roman numeral 10 for the 10 atmospheres (or 100 meters) of water resistance promised by the model.

Offering an entry point into the integrated watch world, the Tissot PRX watch was much more affordable than any alternative on the market, soon following up its quartz models with an automatic version released in a 35mm and 40mm version and powered by the Powermatic 80 movement. Let’s now take a look at the Tissot PRX Automatic Green watch released in 2022…

The Tissot PRX Automatic Green watch

The stainless steel case of the new-for-2022 Tissot PRX Automatic Green watch measures a 40mm diameter and sits at a height of 10.9mm but wears larger on the wrist thanks to a combination of its tonneau-shaped case and its integrated bracelet. Crafted from 316L stainless steel, the case of the watch is hard-wearing and executed with a stylish fine brushed finish that brings forth the sporty feel of the timepiece. The case bevels are polished for added contrast, as are the bezel and the in-between sections of the links on the bracelet. Creating a uniform look across the surface of the case, the fine brushing effect is carried out to a really high standard whilst the polished bevels break the design up and catch the light beautifully. The case is also equipped with 100-meter water resistance and is topped with a flat piece of strong scratch-resistant and anti-reflective sapphire crystal glass. Although the crown at 3 o’clock on the case is not a screw-down type, the modern seals and gaskets of the watch’s case have been improved since the 70s and provide a water-tight environment around the automatic movement sitting within.

Moving onto the dial of the recently released Tissot PRX Automatic Green watch, the model shares the same waffle pattern as the other Powermatic 80 watches from the same series. It creates a clean yet subtly detailed look, punctuated by a set of straight central hour, minute and second hands and an hour track represented by stick markers. There’s also a clearly visible minute track running around the edge of the dial and the watch offers a framed date window at 3 o’clock. The hour markers and hands of the watch have received a strip of Super-LumiNova material on their surface. The only minimalist detail seen on the watch is the “Tissot 1853” lettering at 12 o’clock and the “Powermatic 80” lettering at the south end of the dial. Underneath the 6 o’clock location, you can also see the discreet “Swiss Made” lettering.

Inside the case of the Tissot PRX Automatic watch is the 23-jewelled Powermatic 80.111 movement with a custom rotor and a Nivachron mainspring that enhances the movement’s resistance to magnetic damage. In turn, this improves the watch’s accuracy, allowing it to run within COSC standards despite not being certified with a Chronometer rating. The Powermatic 80 provides an impressive 80-hour power reserve and beats at a rate of 21,600 vibrations per hour.

The integrated stainless steel bracelet of the Tissot PRX Automatic Green watch is, without a doubt, the model’s standout feature. Its flat links are beautifully crafted with a heavy taper that ends in a functional butterfly clasp with push-buttons to release the bracelet and a clear engraving of the Tissot logo upon its surface. Its quick-release strap bars make changing the strap over incredibly hassle-free should you want to. If so, there has been a leather band option made available since the first PRX watch release back in 2020 that now gives the timepiece a more casually elegant style.
