A Look at the Nomos Club Sport Neomatik Polar Blue Watch

The refreshing polar blue dial colour of the new Nomos Club Sport Neomatik watch for 2022 now comes with a smaller 37mm case size, an elegant Oyster-style stainless steel bracelet, and foregoes the date function. In addition to this, you get to choose between a sapphire-backed version for admiring the performance of Nomos’ in-house DUW-3001 movement at work, or a closed caseback with plenty of room left for a specially engraved message.

No matter how many times German watch brand, Nomos gets it spot-on with a timepiece, it never feels repetitive or boring. This is no accident. The company has taken the time to develop in-house movements carefully and methodically and has introduced collections according to what its audience really wants. Nomos takes great care in perfecting each and every design before moving on to the next. The Neomatik models from the company’s catalogue, meaning “New Movement” are indeed powered by a reliable in-house movement and are fitted with the Swing System developed in 2014. Above all, Nomos is an incredibly successful German watchmaker and a true favourite of mine. Its German roots, clean, crisp dials and minimalist Bauhaus-inspired timepieces are just a few examples that make the brand so recognisable across the globe, not to mention its sports watches following after the release of the first Ahoi watch back in 2013. Although not as angular in design, the Nomos Club Sport Neomatik watch is arguably as popular as the Ahoi and perpetuates its universally appealing design through two new releases.

The Nomos Club Sport Neomatik watch is now available in petrol green and polar blue colours. You can check out the petrol green colour by reading up on the review article I wrote here. But if you’re drawn more to the Polar Blue iteration, read on, because we’re going to be looking at the model and all its finest attributes here…

The new Nomos Club Sport Neomatik Polar Blue watch is a captivating timepiece that deserves its time under the spotlight. Its new 37mm size can be managed well on a slender wrist and foregoes the date complication seen in previous models within the collection. This is great news if you remained on the fence about the date feature in the first place. The layout of the dial is now more direct. Everything is stripped back to basics and the Polar Blue colour of the dial is both bold and self-assured (pretty much like the brand’s approach to German watchmaking). Offering plenty of clarity, you can reference the hours and minutes on the main dial with the help of a clear and concise hour track. A small second sub-dial at 6 o’clock donates even more focus to the central minute and hour hands. All-in-all this is a Nomos watch that has lost none of its sporty appeal, whilst at the same time, the option of a palpable blue dial provides you with the perfect dress watch to enjoy on the wrist every day of the week.

The first thing to note about the new Nomos Club Sport Neomatik watch is that it is now more compact and manageable. Its 37mm width is combined with a case depth of 8.7mm and the case is crafted completely of stainless steel to match its Oyster-style stainless steel bracelet, complete with quick-change spring bars and a folding clasp stamped with the world-renowned Nomos name. Reinforcing the capabilities and the key features of a sports watch, the model is also integrated with 200-meter water resistance and has been topped with a sapphire crystal glass front. This strong piece of glass has been treated with anti-reflective technology to assist with a clear view of the dial no matter where you are.

The polar blue version of the Nomos Club Sport Neomatik watch, just like its petrol green iteration, is available with a sapphire-backed case or a closed steel caseback. Whilst the glass bottom version allows you a clear view into the mechanical workings of the watch’s in-house developed movement, the other offers the chance to have a special message engraved upon its surface. Both versions offer something a little different depending on whether you’re an avid fan of the mechanical watch and all its complexities, or whether you’re purchasing this watch for a loved one as a special keepsake.

The shimmering polar blue dial of the new Nomos Club Sport Neomatik watch, complete with a PVD coating and sunburst polishing, is matched in its simplicity by a three-link steel bracelet with outer brushed links and inner polished ones. The spacious layout of the dial features Arabic numerals that alternate with elegant stick markers on a dial that is now notably more spacious without the presence of a date feature. A small second sub-counter located at 6 o’clock provides even more space to the dial and the rhodium-plated elements on the dial have also been treated with a layer of Super-LumiNova to assist with timekeeping in the dark.

The beautifully carved central hour and minute hands of the watch are propelled by the in-house developed DUW 3001 watch, which provides an impressive power reserve of 43 hours. Equipped with the brand’s patented Swing System, the elegant automatic movement performs through a sapphire-backed case or underneath a closed caseback depending on your preference.
