A Look at the Maurice Lacroix Aikon Skeleton 39mm Watch

Inspired by urban architecture the 2022 Maurice Lacroix Aikon Skeleton watch now offers a manageable case diameter of 39m paired with an integrated steel bracelet and a sapphire dial that offers a clear view of a movement constructed using state-of-the-art CAD and CNC machines

The stainless steel sports watch still retains its title as one of the most sought-after timepieces of the 21st century. Its ageless style and iconic features show no signs of stopping any time soon, which is why popular luxury watch brands like Maurice Lacroix continue to do what they do best – make more of them! The Maurice Lacroix Aikon Skeleton is a frontrunner in the affordable luxury sports watch sector, with a range of sizes, dial options and features to enjoy throughout its collection. The architecture of the new Maurice Lacroix Aikon Skeleton Automatic watch is a finer and more considered take on the skeletonised dial with a dramatic and clean representation of an open-worked display that exposes the majority of the automatic movement whilst in motion. Of course, its grip-style decoration on the bezel, simple three-handed dial design and integrated stainless steel bracelet are much-loved features of this latest addition to the Maurice Lacroix collection.

The 2022 Maurice Lacroix Aikon Skeleton watch has a distinct style and is inspired by urban architecture. Now presented in a 39mm diameter, it is easily considered the most manageable size in the series so far. It joins a selection of 43mm, 44mm and 45mm sizes in the skeletonised variation and demonstrates a more affordable option of a historically expensive watch. To create this Aikon watch, Maurice Lacroix has worked closely with Sellita to put the open-worked calibre on show. Let’s take a more detailed look…

The Maurice Lacroix 39mm Aikon Skeleton watch

The movement powering the Maurice Lacroix Aikon Skeleton 39mm model is one from Sellita. The company embraces the skeletonised design using a modern CAD system with loads acting on each part. A CNC machine is used to mill the mainplate, measuring tolerances in microns. The result is a movement of consistent quality that enables the skeletonised watch to be fully appreciated in its best form. The automatic ML115 movement (the calibre Sellita SW200-1) performs at a rate of 28,800 vph and produces a 39-hour power reserve. Its decoration includes ruthenium anthracite plating, soleillage, sandblasting and colimaçon on the mainplate and oscillating weight. Its intricate parts, all working harmoniously together, are put on display through a sapphire dial with a darkened anthracite minute track around the flange. The central hour and minute hands, faceted and rhodium-plated, have both been treated with Super-LumiNova to assist with timekeeping in the dark or during the night. In addition to these features, you can see the Maurice Lacroix lettering and logo at 12 o’clock as well as the “automatic” lettering balancing the dial out at 6 o’clock. Through the front of the dial, you get to see the mainspring in various states of tension alongside a simple three-handed display – it's the best of both worlds. In terms of the case itself? There is no surplus metal.

The stainless steel case of the Maurice Lacroix Aikon Skeleton is integrated with 200-meter water resistance and features both a back and front sealed with scratch-resistant and anti-reflective sapphire crystal glass. The bezel features a decorative grip-style detailing on its surface. These six signature claws are polished to contrast with the vertically brushed case below. Polished sides chamfers and a steep polished bevel complete the sporty look of this luxury steel watch from Maurice Lacroix and give the watch a brilliant gleam.

Overall, the Maurice Lacroix Aikon Skeleton 39mm watch, in comparison to former steel sports watches of yesteryear, proves a robust and affordable option for anyone looking to extend their collection with a skeletonised model. Its generous dose of transparency, paired with long-lasting materials and a clear legible dial make this timepiece a quality watch for wearing on the wrist every day.
