Raymond Weil dedicates their new releases to legendary icons within the music industry. Famous stars who are hailed musical genius’ alongside elite brands who enable creatives to compose have become the muse of their Baselworld instruments. The quartet all capture Raymond Weil’s strong identity and harmonious relationship with music effortlessly; each a Limited Edition adding an air of exclusivity to the wristwatches.

The exquisite stand at Baselworld (check out our live blog) showcased their fascination with music. I was blown away by their deep wooden structure that housed each Limited Edition and influence effortlessly. Peering into each window display was mesmerising with the inspiration presented via footage behind the watch itself. A giant Bowie image demanded attention luring watch fanatics to the stand.

Raymond Weil Watch Bowie Limited Edition

Visionary David Bowie is the inspiration for the Freelancer timepiece. The deceased revolutionary artist lives on in the design chosen for it’s free-spirited attitude; an apt pairing considering Bowie’s unreachable creativity and versatile personas. Dressed in black, the dial’s finish echoes a vinyl record welcoming the red lightning bolt at 12 o’clock symbolising the artists signature logo; a trademark recognised worldwide. The lightning bolt was first painted across his face on the cover of Aladdin Sane album in 1973. To cement the inspiration, the Andy Warhol logo sits in red at 6 o’clock of the 3000 pieces. This year would have marked his 70th birthday making the collaboration with David Bowie’s Estate even more poignant.

The distinctive Limited Edition pays tribute to the electrifying Les Paul Gibson guitar that has shaped rock history. Serving artists such as Jimi Hendrix, Keith Richards and Eric Clapton the string instrument has become an iconic piece and continues to impress worldwide. The circular guilloche motif reflects the chords of the famous guitar interrupted by fret-shaped hour markers. Sitting proudly at 12 o’clock the influence is clearly displayed in white against the black background. The ebony perforated calf leather strap reflects the sound holes of the guitar and the golden highlights add an elegant touch to the Freelancer limited to 300 pieces.

Marking the inspirational artist’s 80th birthday, Raymond Weil have designed a timepiece with Buddy Holly in mind. An iconic musician who influenced his peers and the next generation of legendary bands/artists. His favourite colour blue, frames the silver dial and highlights the seconds sub dial that features the glasses famously associated with Buddy Holly. The musician’s signature sits just shy of the centre and his lucky number 9 is the only number to feature on the exquisite dial. Personal details of his personality and character are incorporated into the timepiece to celebrate his legacy and special birth date.

Raymond Weil Maestro Beatles 2017 Limited Edition

Following the huge success of the 2016 Beatles tribute, Raymond Weil have released a new design dedicated to Abbey Road - the last album recorded by the famous four. The iconic image of the members of the Beatles striding across the pedestrian crossing is echoed in the vinyl record dial. Silver silhouettes are easily identifiable as Paul McCartney, John Lennon. Ringo Starr and George Harrison. With the illusion of the spinning record the legendary outlines look as though they are actually striding along the grooves. With a limitation to 3000 pieces, the new Beatles inspired timepiece is set to be a big hit.
