TAG Heuer Watch Pays Tribute to World Record F1 Pit Stop

25 members of the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team each received a TAG Heuer Carrera timepiece in recognition of their world record pit stop.

The crew achieved Formula 1's first ever sub-2.500-seconds pit stop at the Santander German Grand Prix in July 2012, on Jenson Button's car. As Official Timekeeper and Official Watch of Vodafone McLaren Mercedes, TAG Heuer honoured the achievement with a specially engraved Carrera Day Date for each crew member - "a precious reminder of the value of time".

"Every element of a grand prix team works with the complex perfection of a Swiss watch mechanism – and a successful pit stop is no exception," said Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team principle Martin Whitmarsh. "Although it may look straightforward, the successful execution of a stop is the result of hundreds of hours of intense analysis and preparation. This unique gift from TAG Heuer is a timely reward for the entire crew’s efforts, but, rest assured, there will be no let-up in focus or determination from Vodafone McLaren Mercedes for the remainder of the season.”

The TAG Heuer Carrera Day Date has an open flange design with red accents and large numerals for easy readability. It is powered by a high-tech calibre 16 automatic movement, and features day and date function at 3 o'clock. The watches given to the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team feature a specially engraved case back to commemorate the achievement: 'World record pitstop - first sub 2.500 seconds'.

"This record is incredible, not only the performance itself but also because it shows how Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team is looking for mastering time and precision - so does TAG Heuer," said Jean-Christophe Babin, TAG Heuer president and CEO. "As a partner for more than 25 years, we are really proud of Vodafone McLaren Mercedes performance."

Jenson Button said: "A Formula 1 pitstop is the perfect representation of seamless teamwork. Every movement needs to work in perfect sync for a stop to be a success; if a single motion isn’t synced, then the whole thing fails to work. Getting it right has become an art-form, and I’m incredibly proud that the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team has worked so hard to become the best in the pitlane. They deserve recognition for their efforts, and this gift from TAG Heuer will be the perfect motivation for maintaining their excellent record."
