Garmin Lily Ladies Smartwatch Review

Small but mighty, the new Garmin Lily is the brand’s first ever female-exclusive smartwatch range with selection of stylish 34mm case designs, interchangeable strap options and an exclusive patterned lens.

The Garmin Lily is truly a first-of-its-kind smartwatch: feminine, sophisticated and rooted in fashion with important health and fitness features,” says Susan Lyman, Garmin vice president of global consumer marketing. “Garmin remains committed to creating products that fit the needs of our female customer and in this case, it’s a small, on-trend smartwatch with features designed for today’s active woman.”

There are two Garmin Lily smartwatches to choose from: the Garmin Lily Sport and the Garmin Lily Classic. The Sport variant is the slightly cheaper of the two offering fibre-reinforced plastic casing and silicon straps. The Garmin Lily Classic, on the other hand, is our personal model of choice since it  carries more luxurious case materials including metal case designs in light gold, bronze and cream gold paired with Italian leather straps. While differing slightly in their aesthetics, it’s worth mentioning the specs and features of both the Garmin Lily Classic and the Garmin Lily Sport are exactly the same.

Purposely designed for women that require only the best in terms of functionality and design, the Garmin Lily smartwatch collection is one of the more unique ladies’ smartwatches we have come across in a while. Its distinctiveness derives almost entirely from its unusual, patterned lens which fades to reveal the bright touchscreen display with just a tap or twist of the wrist. The display measures to 1.3 inches, a good size for legibility on the move, and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass for decent scratch resistance. The monochromatic LCD display also boasts 240x240 pixels.

Another unique feature of the Garmin Lily smartwatch is its female health based apps, something that many other luxury smartwatch brands tend to ignore. These features include stress and wellness routines, menstrual cycle trackers and a brand new pregnancy tracker. Each of these cleverly designed features are fantastic for women looking to track each stage of their reproductive cycle and through the Garmin Connect app, you can even log your symptoms beside other heath data for future analysis.

Battery life of the Garmin Lily Ladies smartwatch is good – albeit not quite as impressive as some of the brand’s solar powered watches or the Garmin MARQ range. However, for its affordable price point, the Garmin Lily delivers a healthy 5 day power reserve. It’s enough that you still get accurate and thorough heath and fitness data during both day and night without feeling like you have to wait around to charge it too regularly.

Garmin are true innovators when it comes to their fitness trackers, so it is to no surprise that the Garmin Lily Ladies smartwatch delivers fantastic fitness apps and features for sporty and adventurous women.  Some of these key features include the wrist based heart rate monitor, Pulse Ox detector, stress tracking, hydration monitoring, advanced sleep tracking and a Body Battery energy monitor which shows your body’s current energy level to help you schedule in workouts, rest times and sleep. For workout days, there are a vast range of pre-loaded sports apps to choose from including yoga, Pilates, cardio, treadmill and swimming.

A nice addition to the Garmin Lily would have been built-in GPS, but instead the watch can be used alongside a compatible smartphone’s GPS function to track outdoor runs, walks or rides. The connected GPS feature also works alongside the safety tracking feature so friends and family can track your activity in real time and provide them with some peace of mind when you’re out alone. For socialising the Garmin Lily Ladies smartwatch also comes equipped with smart notifications for incoming calls, text messages, social media updates and alerts and for Android phone users, you can even respond to texts directly from the smartwatch.
