Garmin Supports INEOS Team UK with Garmin Fenix 6
Thursday - 04 February 2021
For 2021, Garmin have announced they will be proudly supporting the INEOS Team UK as their Human Performance Technology Supplier as they attempt to cross the finish line at the America’s Cup 36. The club aims to make history as the first British team to take the Cup to British soil in its 170 year history, all with the help of Garmin’s best technology.
Equipped with GPS bike computers, chest heart rate monitors and Garmin’s smart scales, the INEOS team are determined to enhance their performance both on and off the water to get the best out of the upcoming competitions. INEOS crew members are also relying heavily on the technology provided by the iconic Garmin Fenix 6 smartwatch, an innovative fitness-based tracker packed with exceptional nautical, fitness and sports apps.
“We’re excited to play such an important role in a pivotal moment for INEOS TEAM UK. The team will be working with a full ecosystem of Garmin products, from our new fēnix 6 Pro Solar smartwatches and HRM-tri straps to our Edge 1030 Plus GPS bike computers and Index Smart Scales. Whether they’re training on land, in the gym or out on the water, our technology will give them the data they need to know that they’re fit and ready to compete to win the America’s Cup.” - Jon Oliver, Managing Director of Garmin UK and Ireland.
So how exactly is the Garmin Fenix 6 supporting the INEOM Team UK? Well, the Garmin Fenix 6 Pro Solar model, which is the very smartwatch crewmembers like Team GB winners like Giles Scott will be wearing, boasts a remarkable list of functionality including a wrist based heart rate monitor with HR variability and power zones, training load, sleep trackers, stress scores and a Body Battery Energy monitor. All of these features are entirely personalised to its wearer, giving each sailor a complete training and recovery plan that is can be easily analysed and tailored to their regime.
Take the sleep tracker for example, when one of the INEOM team wear the Garmin Fenix 6 Pro Solar watch to bed, it will analyse their movement and resting heart rate to provide an overall sleep score with additional metrics like total sleep time and sleep cycles. This information can then work alongside the Body Battery Energy monitor which helps determine whether an athlete might need some more recovery time to avoid injury or if they’re ready to push themselves in another workout.
The Garmin Fenix 6 Pro Solar and its built-in heart rate monitor does much more than just give you an accurate pulse reading on the spot. It’s part of a much wider ecosystem that works alongside your sleep metrics, HRV and training load to give you in-depth data about your body composition, fitness levels and current performance workouts. Ben Williams, Head of Human Performance for INEOS Team UK, commented that “You could drown in data. We can see every part of an athlete’s incoming and outgoing load and how it’s affecting them in terms of rest, recovery, body composition, and so on.”
We have every hope that the INEOS Team UK will come to victory in the America’s Cup 36, especially with the help of the legendary Garmin Fenix 6 collection.
