Garmin Reveals Instinct 2 Watch Collection

The Garmin Instinct returns for a second generation release offering smaller case sizes, bolder design, new technologies and a superior battery life. Meet the new Garmin Instinct 2 watch collection.

Since its launch in 2017, the Garmin Instinct has remained the brand’s go-to GPS sports-tracking watch aimed squarely at those passionate about outdoor activities. Its military standard construction makes it one of the most durable smartwatches on the planet and yet within, technology goes uncompromised with multiple GNSS satellite networks with GPS, GLONASS and GALILEO, a TracBack feature, a wrist based heart rate monitor and bunch of sports activity profiles. In 2019, Garmin excelled the design even further with the release of the Garmin Instinct Solar built with an innovative Power Les that provides an additional 30 days of charge.

Now, offering smaller case sizes for all wrists including women, the Garmin Instinct 2 collection offers a fantastic series of new smartwatches. These include two 45mm Garmin Instinct 2 watches with standard quartz movements in Graphite and Electric Lime and three smaller 40mm Garmin Instinct 2S watches in Graphic, Deep Orchid and Poppy Red. Lovers of Garmin’s solar technology will also be pleased to hear the Power Lens returns in an additional six references. There are three 45mm Garmin Instinct 2 Solar watches in Graphite, Tidal Blue and Mist Grey and a trio of Garmin Instinct 2S Solar watches in Graphite, Mist Grey and Neo Tropic.

What’s new?

Other than their slightly smaller case size, the new Garmin Instinct 2 watch collection offers a range of new technologies and apps that those looking for a device built tough enough to stand up to the elements will adore. On top of all the same spec offered by the original Garmin Instinct, the second generation offers a higher resolution display and an improved battery life of 28 days. The Garmin Instinct 2 Solar watches in particular boast the best battery life we have ever seen with an infinite source of power thanks to the ground-breaking Power Lens. If you’re wanting a smartwatch that will survive your weekend off the grid, it’s this one.

The entire Garmin Instinct 2 collection also features new VO2 max training status, new suggested workouts, Fitness Age 2.0, Smart Trainer support, Connected Leader board, Respiration Tracking, Sleep Widget, new Connect IQ and Garmin Pay. There’s also a new HIIT workout profile which tracks your HIIT workouts, including AMRAP, EMOM, Tabata and custom. You can set the number of rounds, work/rest intervals and more for the ultimate fitness session. The Garmin Instinct 2 watches also welcome women’s health tracking allowing you to monitor pregnancy and menstrual cycles with symptom logging, nutrition education and more.

Additional Features

Alongside all these new and exciting features, the Garmin Instinct 2 watch collection continues to uphold all the familiar functionality we have come to love including the TracBack feature which allows you to safely navigate your recorded track back to your starting point and a built-in wrist based heart rate monitor which not only allows you to monitor daily activity but stress, sleep and other wellness data too. There’s also a huge range of sports apps for hiking, running, biking, swimming, kayaking and skiing.

When paired with a compatible smartphone, the Garmin Instinct 2 maintains a full range of smart features including text, email and call alerts straight to your wrist. You can also connect the device with the new Garmin Connect app to join in with an online fitness community and track your own workouts, sleep patterns and more. Lastly, despite the smaller profiles on offer, the Garmin Instinct 2 watches are still engineered to military standards (MIL-STD-810G) for thermal, shock and water resistance (rated to 100 metres) with a tough fibre reinforced polymer case. The cases come equipped with a chemically-strengthened and scratch-resistant high-contrast display that’s easy-to-read, especially in direct sunlight.
