A Lady’s Best Friend - The TUDOR Clair de Rose
Monday - 24 June 2024
If you’re looking for an elegant lady’s dress watch and want the guarantee of a renowned brand, respected for superior craftsmanship and premium materials - the TUDOR Clair de Rose awaits you, dressed in a dramatic blue ray-effect dial.
If I had to describe the new TUDOR Clair de Rose watch in just a few simple ways, I would choose the following description; a curvy case design with elegant cabochon-adorned detailing on the crown, an hour track represented in traditional Roman numerals, an irresistible, dramatic deep blue dial and, of course, the distinctive three-pronged lugs. The name, Clair de Rose, references the company’s iconic flower emblem and the words “Clair de lune” – French for the moonlight. The collection is defined by TUDOR as its cutting-edge jewellery watch series and there are no prizes for guessing why. When the collection was revamped back in 2017, it offered customers a selection of opaline-exclusive dials. Now, however, the brand has released an attractive deep blue dial that is simply out of this world. Suffice it to say, if you like elegant jewellery pieces, this one has to make it into your collection this year.
From Pencil Sketches to Finishing Touches
Today, all TUDOR watches are produced in the Swiss town of Le Locle. Many of the company’s portfolio contains designs that are primed for outdoor exploration. Rugged and robust examples of these include the Pelagos and the Black Bay – the company’s highly coveted neo-vintage dive watch. That said, there are still plenty of dress watch styles to choose from too. These include the Royal and the 1926. These timepieces are nurtured from the initial pencil sketch, right through to the finishing touches on the dial and case, which makes each individual model from the TUDOR Clair de Rose collection even more special. Le Locle itself, home to the brand’s manufacturing facility, is steeped in watchmaking heritage and is also where the Clair de Rose is crafted. Techniques and processes are well preserved here, as is the working attitude of those watchmakers belonging to some of the world’s most prestigious brands. TUDOR is, no doubt, considered the jewel among them, with a history that reflects the benchmark-setting standards that define its sister brand, Rolex.
Together with Rolex, TUDOR takes up a huge proportion of market shares in Swiss watch production and, with the unveiling of the new facility in 2023, it has the perfect excuse to embark on a new chapter of its popular and endearing Clair de Rose collection. The series is already home to opulent designs crafted from stainless steel and available in different sizes. The designs are classic and feminine, with case diameters offered in 26, 30 and 34mm. The decoration on the dial of a Clair de Rose watch from TUDOR is defined by an intricate decoration in relief with Roman numeral hour markers that puncture the display with blue hues that are crisp and legible. The small rice grain links of the stainless steel bracelet featured in these watches, however, are a delight to wear and look at. Dressy and opulent, they shine beautifully under the light, yet wear-wise - they are supple and ergonomically refined for hours and hours of wear. A folding clasp and safety catch at the end of the bracelet secures the metal band to the wrist, borrowing freely from some of the brand’s other emblematic dress watch styles.
The TUDOR Blue Colour
The latest releases to have come of the Watches & Wonders 2024 showcase in Geneva unveil some alluring Clair de Rose watches in TUDOR Blue. The name of the colour is not a specific shade of blue. Moreover, it is the colour that has become most associated with some of TUDOR’S popular designs of the past, including the iconic Submariner. Marrying beautifully with the rich blue nuances of the dial is a blue cabochon on the crown at 3 o’clock. This winding crown design has come to be one of the most instantly recognisable features of the collection. The spinel cabochon embedded into the surface of the crown catches the light beautifully, while functionally, it helps the inner case preserve a dry environment for the meticulously beating engine that sits inside.
The New TUDOR Clair de Rose Watches for 2024
These 100-meter water-resistant 304L stainless steel watches come in a larger 34mm size, a medium 30mm size, and a small 26mm size. Each size option comes on the choice of a full Roman numeral hour track and a mixed track comprising traditional Roman numerals and glistening diamond dot hour markers. These features are set against a concentric circle pattern that creates a ray-like effect in relief across the display. The bulbous silhouette of the case, however, can be fully appreciated from a side angle, including its sloped bezel and domed sapphire crystal glass front, complete with scratch-resistant and anti-reflective properties. Movement-wise, TUDOR packs the larger size with the Calibre T601, while the remaining two sizes are powered by the Calibre T201. Both engines are based on a reliable ETA movement and guarantee a power reserve of 38 hours once fully wound.
Conclusion
It was only a matter of time before the signature TUDOR Blue colour made its way into the elegant Clair de Rose women’s range. The fascinating dials in relief are a true delight to observe, with concentric circles that draw the eye towards the centre of the dial. Aside from this, the watch is packed with superior materials, including a solid sapphire crystal glass front and a robust stele case, fitted with a rice grain link bracelet and the instantly recognisable three-pronged lugs that define the collection.
