Up Close with the Breitling Chronomat B01 Six Nations Scotland Limited Edition
Monday - 20 February 2023
Scotland’s rich blue-coloured Six Nations watch from Breitling’s Chronomat series is a dramatic and sporty timepiece to be enjoyed on the wrist every day. Equipped with an in-house movement and adorned with the Scotland Rugby team’s emblem, the limited edition watch of just 150 pieces worldwide has been released in time to mark the opening match of the annual Guinness Six Nations Rugby Championships.
Dedicated to the unions and federations that make up Six Nations Rugby: England, Ireland, Wales, Scotland, France, and Italy, the new Breitling Chronomat B01 Six Nations watch series has been the talk on the lips of avid rugby fans and dedicated Breitling enthusiasts this week. The series has launched just in time for the start of the tournament which, along with the men’s event, covers the women's and under-20s tournaments, as well as the Autumn International Series.
The Six Nations Rugby Championships has a history that stretches back over 150 years and has, within this time, produced many memorable moments. The successor to the Home Nations Championship (the first international rugby union tournament) initially comprised England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales between the years 1883–1909 but gained France in 1910 followed by Italy back in 2020.
Breitling’s role also extends to the TikTok Women's Six Nations championship, the Autumn Internationals and the 2023 Rugby World Cup warm-up matches. Now, partnered with the Irish stout company, Guinness works closely with Six Nations Rugby and upholds its designation as Official Responsible Drinking Partner to promote sensible and responsible drinking across all aspects of the championship. To mark the Swiss watchmaker’s role as exclusive luxury watch partner to all six nations and the Official Timing Partner to the Guinness Six Nations Rugby Championships, Breitling has released a six-piece limited edition series.
The new range of Chronomat watches from Breitling includes the Scotland iteration, clad in a rich blue dial and featuring the Scotland Rugby team’s emblem at the 9 o’clock location on its chronograph display. The six watches have all been fitted with the in-house manufactured Breitling 01 Calibre, which produces a power reserve of 70 hours and performs at a rate of 28,800 vibrations per hour. The movement sits inside a robust stainless steel case equipped with 200-meter water resistance. Each case is topped with a unidirectional rotating bezel - a useful skill for measuring elapsed time safely whilst underwater. The bezel is topped with raised rider tabs at the 15-minute locations on the scale – one of the key features of the popular Chronomat watch series. In addition to this, the Breitling Chronomat B01 Six Nations Scotland watch carries some other distinctive features of the line, including a date window integrated at 6 o’clock, an onion-shaped crown at 3 o’clock, and a Rouleaux bracelet that secures to the wrist with a refined butterfly clasp.
The new Breitling Chronomat Six Nations Scotland watch features a legible chronograph display with the three counters filled with a silver colour. The 30-minute counter resides at 3 o’clock whilst the 12-hour totaliser sits at 6 o’clock next to the date aperture. The small seconds sub-counter combines with the Scotland Rugby team’s emblem to create a unique finishing touch to the dial. The thistle is the national flower for Scotland and is reinforced by the rich blue colour of the dial to represent the national flag. A tachymeter scale, another popular feature of the Chronomat watch, especially throughout the 1980s and 1990s, frames these chronograph sub-counters and the rugby team’s emblem with a silver ring around the edge of the dial. Baton indexes around the hour track, along with the central hands, have been treated with Super-LumiNova material for improved timekeeping in the night, whilst the sapphire crystal glass front of the watch offers scratch-resistant and anti-reflective properties.
Through a special exhibition caseback crafted from more sapphire crystal, you get to catch a glimpse of the movement whilst it works. The surface of the glass has been emblazoned with the Scotland Rugby team’s emblem once again and is accompanied by the limited edition number of the watch etched into the steel caseback.
If you love the sportiness and the versatility of the popular and highly covetable Breitling Chronomat watch, you’ll love the faultless design of the new Six Nations Scotland watch.
