TAG Heuer Announces Carrera Day-Date 41mm Watches
Thursday - 11 November 2021
TAG Heuer has released 13 new Carrera Three Hands watches including these black, blue and silver dial Day-Date 41mm models, powered by the Calibre 5
During the years 1950 to 1954 Mexico held a gruelling road-racing event named the Panamericana. It was considered one of the most, if not the most dangerous of races in the world. Not long after, TAG Heuer released the first Carrera watch and has since referred to the collection as “born on the racetrack”. The TAG Heuer Carrera watch is a classic and elegant timepiece for purists. The designs from the family manage to distil the essence of the racetrack – the energy – the adrenaline - without becoming too stereotypical of a motorsport watch. Now the Carrera has been updated. TAG Heuer has released a set of four 41mm Day-Date models, a 41mm Twin-Time Date iteration, four TAG Heuer Carrera Date watches measuring 39mm, and four elegant 29mm Carrera Date watches. Today we’re going to look at the 41mm Day-Date models.
It has been almost 60 years since the debut of the TAG Heuer Carrera watch. The name was actually used by Heuer and pre-dated the launch of the TAG Heuer Carrera collection which came a decade later. It all started with the 404 series developed in 1953, which dedicated its design to Carrera Panamericana. The eventual collection would debut in 1963. It represented a genuine, high-quality timing instrument for the racetrack. Jack Heuer’s vision was to create a reliable timepiece that embodied clarity and a sense of spaciousness across the dial. These uncluttered and harmonious dials could be glanced at in the heat of action for the quick referencing of critical information. And there was a reason for this. Nicholas Biebuyck Heritage Director at TAG Heuer explains a little more;
“Legend has it that TAG Heuer’s obsession with readability started in 1958 when Jack Heuer dropped from first to third in a Swiss rally he was competing in because he was unable to read the dashboard timer correctly. After that, Jack decided to focus on and improve this specific pain point, and he embraced his love of modern design to create an incredibly legible watch.”
Boiling things back down to essentials, the Carrera Chronograph, for example, is the simplest and sharpest way to measure and reference timings. It adopts the DNA of the dashboard timers that Heuer has been producing since the early 1930s and was given a dynamic makeover just last year in time for the brand’s 160th anniversary.
“Since its first introduction more than two decades ago, the TAG Heuer Carrera Three Hands has become a centrepiece of our offering, and we are delighted to introduce a new line that ties the watch firmly to its illustrious roots while projecting bold modernity and refinement” explains the CEO of TAG Heuer, Frédéric Arnault. “With 4 variations and 13 new timepieces, our clients and collectors will undoubtedly find the TAG Heuer Carrera that uniquely matches their lifestyle while enjoying its signature understated design and unrivalled legibility, features which have made it the lasting success it is.”
Introducing the new TAG Heuer Carrera Day Date 41mm watches
The 13 new references that comprise the new Carrera Three Hands collection offer a versatile selection of dial colours and sizes. The 41mm Day-Date models are the largest of the lot but still feel compact in size once on the wrist. Two iterations are available in black, followed by a silver dial version and a blue dial version. The movement that powers all four models is based on the ETA 2824-2. As with so many TAG Heuer movements, the self-winding engine is COSC-certified for ultimate recognition of its precision and reliability. Its 26 rubies are part of its entire composition, which also includes a rapid date correction. The Calibre 5 also performs at a rate of 28,800 vibrations per hour and provides a 38-hour power reserve. The movement is also put on show through the back of the case via a sapphire crystal glass exhibition feature.
The four new 41mm Day-Date watches from the new TAG Heuer Carrera collection feature baton-style hour indexes surrounded by a detailed minute track around the periphery of the dial. The central hour and minute hands have been treated with Super-LumiNova material for guided timekeeping in the dark or during the hours of the night. The two black sunray snailed dials feature either rhodium indexes with luminous material, or 5N rose gold-plated indexes with a luminous coating. The TAG Heuer logo at the top of the dial is also crafted from the respective materials, rhodium for the ref: WBN2010.BA0640 and 5N rose gold for the ref: WBN2013.BA0640. There’s also a captivating rich blue sunray snailed dial option with rhodium-coated hands and indexes with luminous treatment. This goes by the reference WBN2012.BA0640. Plus a silver sunray snailed dial with the same rhodium-elements with a reference of WBN2011.FC6484.
All four new TAG Heuer Carrera Day-Date 41mm watches are crafted from stainless steel with polished and fine-brushed finishes. The domed and bevelled sapphire crystal glass top with a double dose of anti-reflective treatment and additional scratch-resistant properties protects the surface of the dial from damage. The crown is positioned at 3 o’clock, whilst the caseback is screwed down to help the rest of the case to maintain a very useful 100-meter water resistance. The day-date feature is positioned on the dial at 3 o’clock in all four models. The blue and black dial versions are all fitted on a fine-brushed and polished stainless steel link bracelet, securing with a folding clasp and double safety push-buttons. The silver dial Carrera Day Date 41mm is fitted on a brown alligator leather strap with a folding clasp and safety buttons. Both the bracelet clasps and leather band clasp are engraved with the famous TAG Heuer logo.
