Breitling unveils new Super Avenger Chronograph 48 Limited Edition

Watches & Wonders 2021 has revealed a new Super Avenger Chronograph 48 watch from Breitling – a robust steel automatic chronograph, limited to just 1000 pieces worldwide

Just a couple of years ago, Breitling decided to revive its original 2001 Avenger watch collection. It joined the already-popular Navitimer and the stealthy Aviator 8 watch collections. The decision to do so put Breitling at the forefront of the industry once again in terms of manufacturing superlative aviation-related timepieces. Reinvigorating the collection brought it onto the wrists of modern tool watch lovers, demonstrating the breadth of skill and determination upheld by the Breitling watchmaking family.

With case sizes varying from the compact 43mm to the confident 48mm and a choice between time-only watches and more sophisticated GMT watches for the experienced traveller - the Avenger watch collection is now as broad and diverse as the company’s skillset itself. Part of the series comprises the Breitling Super Avenger Chronograph 48 and 48 Night Mission watches – both characterised by their broad yet lightweight and durable titanium cases and their luminous dial markers –  the latter dressed in a midnight blue dial and black DLC coated case. Following on with a similar design was the more manageable 45mm Super Avenger Chronograph and Night Mission sibling – again with unidirectional rotating bezels and a chronograph layout in the 6-9-12 format. The Night Mission variations have always been characterised by striking stencil Arabic numeral hour markers and usually feature a splash yellow colour against a deep black or blue dial. The Breitling Avenger watch collection is also home to the Avenger GMT 45 and GMT 45 Night Mission watches, designed in the same style but with an additional 24-hour scale for keeping on track of an additional time zone. Lastly, the Breitling Avenger Chronograph 43 and Avenger Automatic 43 watches offer a comfortable 43mm chronograph watch and a three-handed model –  both no-nonsense designs that are powered by a tried and tested mechanical movement.  So, what’s to love about the new Breitling Super Avenger Chronograph 48 watch? The Breitling Super Avenger Chronograph 48 watch

The limited-edition Breitling Super Avenger Chronograph 48 watch, released in time for Switzerland’s prestigious Watches & Wonders 2021 event, is a bold and oversized tool watch, designed to promote easy handling of its functions and chronograph push-pieces underneath heavy quilted pilot’s gloves. But whether wearing the timepiece in the cockpit, underwater or with a smart business suit - the Super Avenger watch promises a myriad of features that meet the needs of the alpha male. The watch’s rugged and chiselled case is crafted from stainless steel and equipped with a water resistance of 300 meters. Additional features reinforce this impressive water mark like a screw-in crown and caseback. Its broad 48mm case is topped with a cambered sapphire crystal glass lens with anti-reflective treatment applied to both sides. To help you keep careful track of your remaining time underwater, you can align the zero point on the stainless steel unidirectional rotating bezel with the minute hand on the dial, making sure you never outstay your welcome underwater. To assist with referencing the time on the dial, the new Breitling Super Avenger Chronograph 48 Limited Edition watch also features chunky lume-coated central hands and baton hour markers.

In addition to a date window located at 3 o’clock on the watch’s white dial – the new Breitling Super Avenger watch also features a chronograph 30-minute function at 12 o’clock highlighted in red, a 12-hour sub-counter at 6 o’clock and small seconds counter at 9 o’clock. The chronograph central second hand, tipped in red, is activated by the polished push-pieces at 2 and 4 o’clock on the side of the watch’s brushed case, whilst inside this strong housing,  the Breitling Calibre 13 lies. This self-winding movement is based on the Valjoux 7750 and has featured in various Avenger Chronograph watches including those with black, blue and olive green dials. Outfitted with this Calibre 13 movement, the watch can provide a 48-hour power reserve and perform at a rate of 28,800 oscillations per hour.

To finish, the new limited-edition Breitling Super Avenger Chronograph 48 watch is completed on an anthracite-coloured leather strap with white contrast stitching and a stainless steel tang-style clasp engraved with the “B” motif.
