Introducing the Nomos Tangente 38 MSF – 50 Years of Doctors Without Borders
Monday - 26 April 2021
As its namesake suggests, the new 38mm Tangente MSF watch from Nomos helps mark 50 years for Medecins Sans Frontieres with a steel model powered by the German watchmaker’s proprietary manual-winding Alpha movement.
Distinguishable by its vibrant red 12 o’clock numeral, Nomos has been supporting Medecins Sans Frontieres since 2012 and has sold over 10,000 watches to help raise funds for the international humanitarian medical organisation. Continuing with this commitment, the Nomos Doctors Without Borders legacy extends to a new Nomos Tangente 38 MSF watch. A limited-edition model exclusive to just 2,021 pieces worldwide to mark the year of its launch. The model offers a 38mm stainless steel case, holding its trusty manually-wound Alpha movement at its centre and comes equipped with a grey woven textile strap to complete its clean and sophisticated aesthetic.
Medecins Sans Frontieres was founded in 1971 by a small team of journalists and doctors. It is now a global organisation that has funded emergency aid projects all over the globe, having responded to natural disasters in 70 countries including forced migration, malnutrition and disease. The effects of the pandemic over the last 12 months have caused travel difficulties and raised expenses for the organisation. Support is needed more now than ever before. Nomos has released yet another model from its previous line of Doctors Without Borders watches in an attempt to do what it does best – provide collectors with yet another classically executed timepiece whilst raising funds and awareness for Medecins San Frontieres.
The new Nomos Tangente 38 MSF watch
The new Nomos Tangente 38 MSF “50 Years of Doctors Without Borders Watch” is a classically round watch based on the successful Tangente series. The case is crafted from stainless steel and equipped with a water mark of 30 meters. The slim polished case (measuring 37.5mm to be more specific), sits at a height of just 6.7mm making it an ideal companion for wearing underneath the sleeve of an office shirt. The watch features a galvanised white silver-plated dial equipped with an hour track represented in the brand’s staple Bauhaus-inspired Arabic numerals, interspersed with needle-fine stick hour markers. As with previous Nomos Doctors Without Borders watches, the 12 o’clock numeral is executed in a red hue. This Bauhaus-influenced typography is a distinguishable feature of the Nomos Tangente watch collection. Black oxidised hour and minute hands match the hand seen in the small second sub-dial at 9 o’clock and, of course, the Nomos Glashutte lettering resides in its normal position at 12 o’clock. At the southern hemisphere of the dial, an inscription can be seen depicting the “50 ans de Medecins San Frontieres” lettering.
The galvanised white dial of the new Nomos Tangente 38 MSF “50 Years of Doctors Without Borders” watch is protected underneath a pane of sapphire crystal glass. This remarkably hard material also offers scratch resistant and anti-reflective properties for a glare-free glance into the dial at any time of the day. The back of the steel case is finished with a limited edition engraving that refers to 50 years of the Doctors Without Borders organisation. In addition to this, the caseback is also marked with the watch’s specific limited-edition number.
The powerhouse for the Nomos Tangente 38 MSF watch is the manually-wound Alpha movement, which features a stop seconds mechanism, a Glashutte three-quarter plate and a Glashutte sunburst decorated ratchet and crown. Rhodium-plated finishes, tempered blued screws, Glashutte ribbing and rhodium-plated surfaces are carried out on the movement to complete its traditional finishes. The Alpha movement is in-house built and offers a 43-hour power reserve.
The new Nomos Tangente 38 MSF watch is completed on a grey woven textile strap with a stainless steel winged clap engraved with the Nomos lettering. For more information on this limited edition Nomos Glashutte watch, you can call our team on 01335 453453.
