The U-BOAT Chimera Day-Date Watch Review
Thursday - 13 August 2015
The U-BOAT Chimera Day-Date watch is the first timepiece by the innovative brand to indicate both the date and day of the week on its dial.
The masterpiece boasts a 46 mm diameter case, which is available in either a sharp stainless steel or naturally aged bronze for a variety of styles. The bezel and case back are secured by external tubing and a customised key that guarantees water-proofing. The bronze casing frames a gorgeous chocolate brown laser cut dial with a hand brushing technique delicately applied to the surface. The perfect platform for the half bronze, half brown strong hour and minute hands with ultra fine bronze second hand. A heavy contrast witnesses the stainless steel case that surrounds the two black superimposed dials with laser cut baton hands that have been coated with superluminova for visibility in restricted lighting. To ensure ease of adjusting of the date and time, the Chimera Day-Date uses the patented system for the retrieval of the watch crown.
Both editions sport a minimal and simplistic dial that features three indented marks to tell the time. Each indicator is marked with two sharp lines and are positioned at 12, 4 and 8 o’clock for the wearer to gain a perspective and understanding of how the dial operates. Positioned at 3 o’clock is the date display in a square box whereas the day of the week is arched between the 10 and 11 o’clock position. The decision to eliminate numbers and minute indices is most likely to focus primarily on the date and day display that is a new feature for both to appear on the dial.
