Certina DS-1 Powermatic 80 Watch Review
Friday - 12 December 2014
The letters 'DS' have been a trusted hallmark of Certina watches for more than 50 years. Standing for 'Double Security', the DS collection was first launched in 1960 with a range of timepieces that were designed to be especially scratch resistant, water resistant and shock resistant, setting them apart from other automatic timepieces of the era. The DS concept is achieved through an ultra scratch resistant sapphire crystal; an o-ring gasket on the stem; two o-ring gaskets in the crown; a specific gasket on the case back; and a reinforced case back.
The Certina DS-1 is an iconic design from the brand's history, now updated to include full Powermatic precision, 80 hours of power reserve and a range of modern finishes.
This retro inspired design has a stainless steel case with a diameter of 40 mm. These 'sport-classic' Certina watches are available with a choice of black, silver or grey dial and feature a date window at 6 o'clock. The DS-1 Powermatic 80 is water resistant to a minimum pressure of 10 bar in accordance with the relevant ISO standards, and comes with a stainless steel bracelet or leather strap.
