Refreshed for 2025, the TAG Heuer Carrera Day-Date – a mainstay in the La Chaux de Fonds brand’s portfolio – keeps the same silhouette despite featuring some subtle and stylish updates. TAG Heuer experts intend these designs to improve the watch’s wearability and readability and come in 5 new variants – each one geared towards the wrists of those who share TAG Heuer’s passion for motorsport and precision.

The Carrera watch is one of TAG Heuer’s most successful designs. Not only is its dial focused on legibility, but it also evokes the dashboards of racing cars. No doubt, if you’ve explored motorsport watches in the past, you’ll have stumbled across various watches from the TAG Heuer Carrera watch collection, particularly the sporty chronograph type. The first-ever Carrera watch was designed by Jack Heuer himself and launched in 1963. The line was named after the Panamericana rally, where cars would race through the rustic streets of Mexico during the 1950s.

Once the Carrera watch was released, it became an instant hit. The icon has been modified in various ways since then but has never lost its unmistakable DNA. What’s more, those models that were equipped with the Heuer 01 or 02 Calibres were engineered with a modular construction that opened up a world of possibilities in terms of design. Upon first glance, you’ll notice that the bezel of these new TAG Heuer Carrera watches for 2025 is slimmer, affording a more expansive crystal glass and a larger presence. Of course, opening up the dial in such a way puts more focus on the simple elements of timekeeping – the new Carrera’s slim and sophisticated hands and the handy day-date complication, which allows you to track the passing days of each month easily. The hour markers on the dial are also more spaced out, which TAG Heuer believes gives the Carrera watch a three-dimensional look. A nice touch is the date and day wheel, which TAG Heuer experts colour match with the rest of the dial.

The five new Carrera Day-Date watches for 2025 comprise a signature Carrera blue with a sunray finish, a black grained dial with blue and red accents, a smoky red opaline dial that is sure to be a firm favourite with those who like bold colour, and black opaline dial with rose gold appliques on a choice of two straps. Each model has been crafted from stainless steel and measures a diameter of 41mm and a depth of 12.57mm. The fixed polished bezel and domed sapphire crystal glass help achieve a dose of nostalgic charm, while the screw-down crown, engraved with the TAG Heuer emblem, upholds a 100-meter water resistance.

Now, to the configurations. The blue and smoky red options come with a stainless steel bracelet, while the black grained version comes on a black leather perforated strap. The black opaline dial comes on a choice of two straps: either a steel bracelet or a steel and rose gold two-tone bracelet. Another bonus is the clasp, which TAG Heuer has refined, and a new quick adjustment link system has been added. It means you’ll be able to fine-tune your adjustments on the fly without needing any tools while away from home.

Perhaps what was missing from the Carrera line was the performance and reliability of a new-gen movement like the Calibre TH31-02. The automatic engine has been exclusively developed for the brand in collaboration with AMT. It provides an impressive power reserve of 80 hours once fully wound and promises a five-year warranty, along with a high level of finishing and decoration. The movement’s shield-shaped rotor – the brand’s logo – can be admired through an exhibition caseback made from sapphire crystal, securing the brand’s deep-rooted connection to motorsport. Lastly, beside the Carrera lettering on the back of the case is a victory wreath, symbolising the Carrera’s reputation as a “success watch” and underpinning TAG’s legacy in sustaining innovation, breaking records and redefining the impossible.
