Watches & Wonders 2025: New TAG Heuer Formula 1 Solargraph
Wednesday - 02 April 2025
The new bold and unequivocally retro-looking Formula 1 Solargraph watches revealed at Watches and Wonders 2025
The TAG Heuer Formula 1 x Kith of last year was exemplary, but it wasn’t a regular production piece. The vintage 1980s-style pieces brought back the original Formula 1 DNA, which originally used fibreglass and sandblasted steel for their cases. The TAG Heuer x Kith limited edition releases featured colourful PVD-coated cases and bezels, 200-meter water resistance and a quartz movement. They certainly brought back the magic of the nostalgic Formula 1 design. Now, quelling the long-awaited desires of legions of fans who never got the chance to grab one of these limited edition models, TAG Heuer has unveiled the Formula 1 Solargraphs as regular models in the brand’s popular sports watch range. Let’s delve into everything you’ve been waiting to know.
If you’re one of those fans who have been longing for a regular production of the retro-inspired Formula 1 watch, today is your lucky day. As an overview, these new Watches & Wonders 2025 releases celebrate the brand’s sport-oriented heritage and come with a trouble-free movement, redesigned dial elements, and a redesigned bracelet. The Swiss marque is reviving this classic – the very first generation from 1986 – and bringing it into an affordable entry-level category. These new TAG Heuer Formula 1 Solargraph models come complete with new materials, new size and a new sporty, fun spirit that you’d be crazy not to want to check out.
Those lucky enough to remember the original 1986 TAG Heuer Formula 1 watches will be more than familiar with their compact proportions. It measured a manageable 35mm diameter, smaller, of course, than these new 38mm models. Even so, the overall look and silhouette of the new-gen Formula 1 watches remain intact. The models are each crafted from stainless steel and are available in different finishes. You can choose between a sandblasted steel finish, a matte black PVD-coated finish or sportier matte red and blue-coloured cases crafted from TAG Heuer’s innovative TH-Polylight material. The flared hooded lugs are another fan favourite, as is the heavily crenellated bezel, designed for a super easy grip. Here, you can track a full 60 minutes in conjunction with the central minute hand. The bezels are available in blue, yellow and green, as well as a more classic black, with a square typeface that makes the markings stand out with more legibility.
The TH-Polylight material debuts in this collection in all of the bezels of these new TAG Heuer Formula 1 Solargraph watches. It’s a bio-based polyamide that is both durable and lightweight, making it a perfect material for use inside a sports watch like this. When rotating the bezel, collectors will be treated with a refined mechanical sound that no doubt adds sensory value to wearing the new watch. With a 9.9mm thickness, the new TAG Heuer Formula 1 watch should feel svelte on the wrist, helped along by the fact the watch measures a very manageable 45mm lug-to-lug. These dimensions are paired with a screw-down crown, 100 meters of water resistance, and a solid steel caseback.

The black, blue and white dials of the new Formula 1 Solargraph watches all feature beefed-up Mercedes hands, diver-style indices and - the talking point of the dial - new shield-shaped hour markers at the cardinal points. Unlike the original watches, these dials feature raised rhodium-coated appliques or black lacquered ones for better legibility. Lashings of Super-LumiNova ensure the dials light up like torches in the dark, too. In a unique spin, the red and white variant features an Arabic numeral in place of the shield markers, divorcing itself from the other designs.
The new TAG Heuer Formula 1 Solargraph watch, as you will have guessed by now, benefits from solar-powered technology. The Calibre TH50-00 is a light-powered quartz movement that has been made by Citizen-owned La Joux-Perret, exclusively for TAG Heuer. Drawing from the movement manufacturer’s expertise, the engine can run for 10 months on just 40 hours of charging and can function for up to 15 years without needing a battery replacement. The watches come on a choice of sporty coloured rubber straps in red, yellow, blue and black or on a brushed stainless steel bracelet with a folding clasp engraved with the brand’s shield logo.
The original Formula 1 watch was a design that had everything going for it. These watches were inexpensive, colourful, fun and beautifully captured the brand’s contribution to the sporting world. Fast forward to over 35 years later and those values still stand for this ultra-confident and masculine design. The brand has been committed to evolving this collection from the beginning, growing it to reflect the demands and tastes of modern collectors.
TAG Heuer has really hit the nail on the head with this new 2025 release. The Formula 1 Solargraph watches are historic but wholly modern and vibrant. From those early fibreglass watches to the state-of-the-art movements now powering the latest range – the story of the Formula 1 watch continues. Nearly 3 million people chose to wear those earlier designs, cementing TAG’s role in the industry and its many milestones, such as its sponsorship of Ferrari in the 1970s, its sponsorship of Williams in the 1980s and its 50% ownership of McLaren International during the 1981 season. May TAG Heuer continue to make more of those memorable moments with this latest version of the Formula 1 Solargraph – a now more retro, sustainable and ergonomic design.
