The New Breitling Chronomat B01 42 Triumph Watch Arrives
Wednesday - 12 June 2024
Nurturing its partnership with Triumph, Breitling combines its Swiss expertise with the motorcycle manufacturer to produce yet another striking timepiece – the new Chronomat B01 42 Triumph watch.
The “Café Racer” culture was enjoying its heyday back in the 1960s. Milled and engineered in the West Midlands, these speedy roadsters marked an important era for Britain and, of course, tie in beautifully with Swiss watchmaking. That’s because Breitling has been enjoying a fruitful partnership with UK-based motorcycle manufacturer Triumph for some time now, combining world-class mechanical engineering with the expert craftsmanship of pure quintessential Swiss timekeeping. This special collaboration has been going strong since 2022, resulting in numbered editions, innovative motorcycle designs, and beautiful core models. This rich history of collaborating with renowned brands like Breitling has undoubtedly enhanced the motorcycle world. Continuing down that road, the new Chronomat B01 42 Triumph watch promises accuracy, refinement, reliability and performance – plus, it looks incredibly exhilarating on the wrist.
Time and Speed
When it comes to motorcycles and luxury watches, the two are intertwined quite profoundly. The relationship between the two concepts began many decades ago but the golden years were those defined by watches like the Top Time, created by no other than Willy Breitling himself. Breitling has always been at the forefront of the chronograph design, which put it right in the middle of the motor-racing era of the 1960s. The Top Time was a watch that looked and felt natural on the track and was subsequently a design that Breitling chose to reinvigorate when it previously collaborated with Triumph. The latest masterpiece of the Breitling and Triumph relationship, however, is the Chronomat B01 42 Triumph watch, clad in a stunning titanium and rose gold silhouette and measuring a 42mm diameter.
Built with 200-meter water resistance and a sapphire crystal glass top, the watch is ready to stand in the face of any challenge. What’s more, its alluring rose gold accents that trim the distinctive bezel with 4 rider tabs, pair perfectly with a set of polished 18ct rose gold push-pieces for effortless control over the stopwatch timings. Whether a biker or not, the new Chronomat Triumph watch is equipped with everything you need in a luxury timepiece.
Get Both
The collaboration between Breitling and Triumph is not just about the watch. A limited run of 270 Speed Triple 1200 RR roadsters has also been released. The new design boasts premium bespoke gold hand-painted detail that echoes the accents on the case and dial of the new Breitling Chronomat watch, as well as leather seats with French stitching, a high-specification Akrapovič silencer, and ultra-light carbon fibre parts, not to mention a 1160cc triple engine. All these features considered, it would be naïve to think that both bike enthusiasts and fans of the brand are not going to want to bag both of these for themselves, especially since there will only be 270 bikes released of this type.
Why The Chronomat?
There are no prizes for guessing why Breitling has chosen the Chronomat watch for its latest collaboration with Triumph. The watch has a distinctive aesthetic and a robust, ergonomic construction. It has over 70 years to look back on, having first launched in 1941, equipped with the slide rule bezel that we now see so famously flaunted on the Navitimer instrument. But the Chronomat that we now associate with today’s range arrived in the 1980s, complete with an onion-shaped crown, and four rider tabs on the bezel at 3, 6, 9 and 12 o’clock. The four raised tabs not only help form the Chronomat’s iconic look, but they also serve a function purpose too, making bezel manipulation a breeze under heavy riding gear and by protecting the surface of the sapphire glass.
Suffice it to say, if you’re a café biker, the Chronomat watch is perfect for tracking distances, thanks to its tachymeter bezel, and for measuring elapsed time with the chronograph features. Its legible dial is perfect for referencing under the glare of the beating sun and it’s available in two strap options; a biker-special alligator leather strap in brown or a perforated brown leather strap that echoes the leather seats of the Speed Triple 1200 RR bike itself.
The New Breitling Chronomat B01 42 Triumph Watch
What makes the new Breitling Chronomat B01 42 Triumph watch so standout is its unique Triumph anthracite dial that echoes the dark grey shades of the bike, and its high-end spec, complete with a titanium and 18ct rose gold case. These tones perfectly compliment the two-tone dial, with black-filled chronograph counters at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock. The date window resumes its usual place inside the 12-hour totaliser at 6 o’clock, while the 30-minute and small second functions balance the dial at 3 and 9 o’clock respectively. The watch also features a tachymeter scale around the periphery and Super-LumiNova-coated hands and baton hour markers. One of the finest features of the dial, however, is the Triumph shield used as the counterweight on the base of the chronograph second hand – a subtle but beautiful nod to this special partnership between the two entities.
On the reverse of the case is a special “Triumph Edition” engraving, alongside a sapphire crystal glass exhibition window that showcases a beautifully decorated B01 movement, the same that is seen in the 2022 Navitimer release. The in-house B01 movement is a self-winding engine that is capable of performing at 28,800 vibrations per hour. It produces a 70-hour power reserve and is COSC-certified, promising an accuracy of -4/+6 seconds per day.
