If you’re a lady and you’re looking for the most traditional Nomos watch, the Ludwig is the collection to explore. How does the new Nomos Ludwig 33 Noir watch wear on the wrist?
Ladies will certainly appreciate the versatility of the Ludwig range. The Saxon watchmaker has created these timepieces with almost no bezel, creating a clean and sophisticated style that is both parred-back and legible. The recently released Nomos Ludwig 33 Noir – launched at the back end of last year – measures a 33mm diameter and is crafted from stainless steel. There is a very obvious reason why the Ludwig watch has remained in the brand’s catalogue for so long. Released in 1991, it has always been the staple timepiece to go to when wanting to add a discreet touch of sophistication to formal or casual attire. This Ludwig watch, like all models from this range, is dressy without needing to try too hard, with gold-kissed elements that marry perfectly with a traditional leather band.
Although perhaps marketed as a ladies’ watch, the new Nomos Ludwig 33 Noir could also suffice as the perfect daily companion for men with smaller wrists. When it comes to Nomos Ludwig watches, there simply are no rules. Wear the watch however and wherever you like, but expect it to get the attention it deserves! It features a rich black dial framed by a polished three-part stainless steel case and a sapphire crystal glass front that makes timekeeping incredibly easy when under direct artificial light or natural sunlight. You can purchase the watch with a sapphire-backed case (enabling an insight into the perfectly performing movement), or a solid stainless steel case with extra space given for a special engraving should you wish. It’s also worth noting that the steel caseback version is priced lower than the sapphire-backed version, yet both models promise value for money since they’re both powered by a movement that has been developed from the ground-up at Nomos’ Glashutte-based manufacturing facilities. The case of the new Nomos Ludwig 33 Noir watch is also water resistant to 30 meters.
The Nomos Ludwig 33 Noir watch has more linear lugs than the Tangente, for example. It’s also rounder in shape with a more vintage-inspired subtlety seen in the mix of Roman numeral hour markers and slim baton markers around the hour track. What makes the dial of this watch quite special is that its base is galvanised, whilst its surface is matte finished. The numerals and the stick markers are painted in a white colour that looks quite contemporary and the hands are powered by the brand’s reliable Alpha movement. Produced in-house, the hand-wound movement is executed with thin ribbing and blued screws that, as aforementioned, can be enjoyed through a sapphire-backed case should you opt for this version. Otherwise, the movement and its peerless performance are concealed behind a solid caseback. The movement also provides a power reserve of 43 hours and performs at a rate of 21,600 vibrations per hour.
An anthracite velour strap completes the classic look of this new Nomos Ludwig 33 Noir watch. It secures to the underside of the wrist with a practical polished stainless steel pin buckle fastening engraved with the famous Nomos logo as a stamp of authenticity.
