TAG Heuer Introduces New Aquaracer Professional 200 Solargraph Watch

Last year, TAG Heuer released the Aquaracer Professional 200 Solargraph – an all-black affair with a carbon bezel that truly stole the show. The model was the perfect grab-and-go dive watch that also doubled up as a model for outdoor pursuits. Following in the footsteps of the recently revamped Aquaracer, the Professional series (which this 2022 Solargraph watch joined) featured the 6 key features defined by the first Aquaracer models released back in 2004. These comprised a unidirectional rotating bezel, screw-down crown, luminous dial markers, sapphire crystal glass front, folding bracelet clasp and a water-resistant capability of at least 200 meters. The Professional models also marked a transition to upgraded materials and a redesigned dial and case. Now, as an extension to this solar-powered concept, the newest TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 200 Solargraph watch features a lightweight and durable titanium case, promoting optimum comfort on the wrist.

The Solargraph watch’s key features

If you haven’t yet checked out the new TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 200 Solargraph watch, you need to. I’ll outline the key features of the watch, which need very little justification. First, there’s the fact that the watch is fitted with a solar-powered calibre that requires only two minutes of sunlight to charge the watch for the entire day. Secondly, it comes with all the Aquaracer features. Two of these include a unidirectional rotating bezel that turns only in the counter-clockwise direction for ultimate diver safety and a 200-meter water resistance.

The new TAG Heuer Solargraph watch also features a partially transparent dial that enables sunlight to penetrate through its surface and charge the movement sitting within. Across this dial is a polar blue-coloured central second hand that nods to the colours of the Northern Lights that appear in the night sky across the Arctic Circle from which the Swiss manufacturer’s outdoor philosophy for the Aquaracer began. The dive watch, like all other Aquaracer models, draws on the foundations of the original ref. 844 designed by Jack Heuer in 1978 but now features a lightweight titanium case and a matching titanium bracelet. Let’s take a look at some of these features in a little more detail…

The new TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 200 Solargraph watch

The case of the new TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 200 Solargraph watch is crafted from grade 2 titanium with a sandblasted finish and is integrated with 200-meter water resistance. The 40mm model is topped with a unidirectional rotating bezel with a 60-minute scale that can be read easily whilst underwater or in dark conditions. Inside this bezel is a black sunray brushed dial that is partly transparent to enable natural light to penetrate through the surface and reach the movement sitting inside. The dial is adorned with a lateral lined pattern as seen in the other Professional watches of the Aquaracer series and features a date window at 3 o’clock, not to mention a rhodium-plated brand logo at 12 o’clock. The black-coated central hands and indexes on the dial are accompanied by a second hand that has been finished in a polar blue colour, inspired by the Northern Lights. The entire dial is protected by a strong piece of scratch-resistant and anti-reflective sapphire crystal glass, shielding the display and its luminous-coated elements from denting, moisture, light and debris damage.

The movement that sits inside this new TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 200 Solargraph watch is the Calibre TH50-00, which has been developed by the Manufacture La Joux-Perret in La Chaux-de-Fonds in Switzerland. It takes just 2 minutes to charge under the sunlight for the entire day and just 20 hours in total to power the watch for a full 6 months. When the battery runs low, a mere 10 seconds is all it takes to kick-start the movement back up.

The new TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 200 Solargraph is fitted on a matching grade 2 sandblasted titanium three-link bracelet that secures to the wrist with a folding clasp and a double push button. The clasp also features a comfort link extension, engraved with the famous TAG Heuer shield logo.
