Alpina has really upped its game in the realm of vintage-style dive watches as of late. The company is onto a very good thing because there is quite simply nothing more fascinating than “plunging” (excuse the pun) into the historic records of dive watches to a time when these tools were not only recognised for their distinct styling but for their practical and technical designs.
Alpina dive watches began turning heads in 1967 with the release of the Alpina 10 – a watch that was later known as the Alpina 10 Seastrong in 1969. It featured a patented spring mechanism built into the back of the case to make it watertight and was designed by Ervin Piquerez SA (EPSA). It also offered a water resistance of 200 meters and an anti-magnetic case. Alpina revisited this Super Compressor dive watch in 2016 and the range has been growing ever since with models like the Alpina Seastrong Diver 300 Heritage.

Its superb green glossy dial was chosen to capture the unique way in which sunlight hits the surface of the water and its intense shade was selected as a reference to the diversity of the ocean’s unique ecosystem. Now it’s time to have a look at another model from this sub-category – the Alpina Seastrong Diver 300 Heritage Black, fitted on a beautiful brown calf leather strap that really looks the part on the wrist of any vintage dive watch fanatic.
The new Alpina Seastrong Diver 300 Heritage Black watch
The Seastrong watch collection by Alpina is quite unique in the fact that it is offered in both modern and retro versions. The Seastrong 300 watches are bold and chunky whilst the vintage-stye references follow the cues from Alpina’s much earlier compression-stye dive watches with a thinner silhouette, a unidirectional rotating inner bezel, a domed sapphire crystal glass front and long, pointed lugs. The new Alpina Seastrong Diver 300 Heritage Black watch offers a very symmetrical-looking dial which foregoes the date complication and any other features likely to add unnecessary clutter to its space. Its rich black dial is housed within a case measuring 42mm in diameter and 12.30mm in height. More vintage-inspired than ever, the top of the case is fitted with a boxed sapphire crystal glass front and the case itself is integrated with 300-meter water resistance.
The internally rotating bezel of the Alpina Seastrong Diver 300 Heritage Black watch boasts gold-plated 60-minute markings that join nicely with the stick markers around the hour track on the model’s sunray-finished black dial. In addition to this, the central hour, minute and second hands are also gold-plated, with luminous material applied to their surfaces. The minute hand is tipped with an arrow motif, whilst the hour hand tapers at the tip. The internally rotating bezel can be adjusted by the 2 o’clock crown, whilst the 4 o’clock crown can be used for adjusting the time and winding the movement.
The two-part stainless steel case of the Alpina Seastrong Diver 300 Heritage watch holds the Calibre AL-520 inside. Complete with 26 jewels, it performs at a rate of 28,800 vibrations per hour and provides a useful 38-hour power reserve once fully wound. It sits behind a specially engraved caseback depicting the beloved Swiss Alps and the instantly recognisable Alpina lettering. To complete its retro look, the dive watch is fitted on a brown calf leather strap and a robust stainless steel pin buckle.
