Reaching New Heights: The Bremont Altitude

British brand Bremont has been pioneering watches for the land, sea and skies since 2002, but from 2011 onwards, the Henley-on-Thames manufacturer has been supplying rugged tools for the military, which means it can cut no corners in its pursuit of creating some of the world’s most capable tool watches. Several of the brand’s models are favoured by some 500 elite units and military groups who rely on a blend of beautiful engineering, industry-grade materials and the company’s unwavering adventurous spirit. One of Bremont’s youngest examples of said values is the Altitude watch – a design that unites the wonder of aviation with robust engineering. Those who choose to do life with an Altitude watch get the chance to harness the brand’s aviation heritage and experience first-hand the core vision of its founders.

In these modern interpretations of the flying watch, the wearer gets to see the world through the eyes of its designers via an extension of the popular MB watch – a tool designed for skilled pilots who have ejected from a moving aircraft using a Martin-Baker ejection seat. This year, Bremont is building on the evolution of the Altitude watch collection, expanding the line with new additions such as the Altitude MB Meteor, the Altitude 38 Date, and the Altitude Chronograph GMT.

If you’re looking to expand your current luxury watch collection with a purpose-built tool that not only resists the impact of shock but also the damaging effects of magnetism, these new Altitude watches are for you. Bremont looks to the future with these new designs while simultaneously keeping the significance and importance of the MB watch collection in the rear-view mirror at all times. The history behind these new Altitude watches serves as an integral and solid foundation for the latest releases. After all, the MB watch collection was Bremont’s answer to shock and force resistance, having developed a wristwatch that could withstand the live ejection seat process, exceeding 20 Gs. It also proved capable of facing fluctuating temperatures and violent vibrations thanks to its robust Trip-Tick case construction, dual crown, bidirectional Roto Click internal bezel, and unusual counterbalance on its second hand.

The Bremont MB Meteor

The new Bremont MB Meteor is inspired by Britain’s very first jet fighter – the Gloster Meteor. A slimmer profile and reduced lug-to-lug proportions all contribute to a more ergonomically fitting watch, measuring 42mm in diameter. Grade 2 titanium ensures the watch remains lightweight on the wrist, while a coloured barrel, an angled bezel and a sapphire box crystal all help to create the look and feel of a vintage-inspired wristwatch with modern infusions. Some elements of the Altitude watch have been re-engineered to better this design further. Examples include the butter-smooth Roto Click technology and improved Super-LumiNova materials for enhanced visibility. Behind a see-through caseback is the BB14 movement based on a beautifully crafted La Joux-Perret engine, adorned with gunmetal grey finishes and Geneva stripes for decoration. Dial-wise, Bremont offers the MB Meteor in brushed silver or black, each one accompanied by the signature lollipop seconds hand with the looped “ejection” pull handle design, together with a choice of three straps – a black and anthracite NATO, a black rubber, or a titanium bracelet.

The Bremont Altitude 39 Date

Borrowing from that same MB format, the new Altitude 39 Date watches from Bremont benefit from the patented Trip-Tick case technology, though in a more compact 39mm size, with beautifully contoured edges that bring the spirit of flight to the forefront of the design. This single crown-operated timepiece is crafted from high-grade 904L stainless steel, which Bremont experts match with a stainless steel bracelet. For something more relaxed, however, the watch can be enjoyed on a black nubuck box stitched strap that matches the case’s brushed black DLC-coated centre barrel. Nestled deep in the heart of the case is the BB14 Calibre again – capable of storing and releasing 68 hours of power reserve from its barrel. The galvanic metal dials are offered in black and brushed silver, with blue emission lume and glossed black hour and minute hands that accompany the signature lollipop seconds hand.

The Bremont Altitude Chronograph GMT

Bremont reaches a new purpose with its Altitude watch, aiding stopwatch features with a GMT complication for those who like to travel. This combination is a staple in Bremont’s other collections, playing a key role in some of the brand’s most important military collaborations. This 42mm stainless steel Bremont Altitude Chronograph GMT watch features a black DLC-coated centre barrel, which protects the Calibre BC781, complete with an autonomy of 62 hours once fully wound. The engine is suspended inside a shock-resistant housing made from rubber, with soft iron anti-magnetic shielding that guarantees uncompromised mechanical performance whether travelling, flying or wearing on the daily. The GMT hand is executed with Bremont’s red arrow tip and reaches out to a legible 24-hour scale against dial colours of silver and black. Both the nubuck leather and NATO strap options offer a more relaxed finish, while the dressier steel bracelet with a quick-release feature is ideal for enjoying alongside a more formal wardrobe.
