Oris Big Crown D.26 286 HB-RAG Limited Edition Watch Review
Friday - 13 October 2017
Oris unveil a new member to their legendary Big Crown collection - the D.26 286 HB-RAG Limited Edition. Dressed in khaki green, the model pays tribute to the Dewoitine D.26 aircraft strengthening their relationship with aviation. Limited to 1931 pieces, the pilot watch brings a charming, retro feel to the wrist!
The Dewoitine D.26 aircraft was in operation during 1931 to 1948 by the Swiss Air Force to train new pilots. Conserved by Hanger 31 at their base in the Swiss town of Genchen, the plane remains fully functional and is one of the only two planes in existence of this type to still conquer the skies. The Hanger 31 consists of a team of volunteers who have recently restored the Dewoitine D.26 back to flying condition after years of neglect. From the foothills of the Jura Mountains, Hanger 31 stick to their motto of “Conservare et volare” - translated to conserve and fly. Turn over the stunning instrument to find an embossed image of the historical plane alongside the limitation number.
Revisiting the 1938 Big Crown design, the new model features the brands signature pointer date complication, which was debuted by the original version. Framed by a 40mm stainless steel case, the green dial adds to the vintage aviator style of the watch as does the tin edged bezel. Remaining true to the iconic name of the collection the crown is oversized yet not out of place. Choose from either a tan or brown leather strap depending on your personal preference.
The sales of the beautiful timepiece will support the Hangar 31’s conservation work ensuring that the restoration of iconic planes will be restored and enjoyed for years to come.
