New from Oris: the ProPilot X Calibre 400 Watches
Monday - 04 April 2022
With elevated levels of anti-magnetism, improved accuracy, and a 10-year warranty, Oris’ in-house Calibre 400 sits inside three new aviation-inspired ProPilot watches released for this year’s Watches and Wonders 2022 event.
Perhaps only a watch company as confident as Oris could say an assertive “no” to smartwatches and quartz movements. The company has gained a reputation for crafting some beautifully refined timepieces over the years, including a century’s worth of aviation tools, but one thing it will not do is conform to the norm. Oris strongly believes in the beauty of a mechanical watch and the ability to observe it in working motion. It believes in the hypnotic allure of a complex engine that, in a world full of technical gadgets that very few people really understand, can be appreciated in all its glory – and understood. Oris’ Calibre 400 movement powers this newly launched ProPilot X Calibre 400 watch series. It has several advantages to take note of. 1) it is accurate to -3 and +5 seconds a day 2) it is certified to chronometer standards 3) it features a sweep central second hand and date function 4) it can withstand significant levels of magnetism 5) it comes with a 10-year warranty and a recommendation of 10-year service intervals.
The watch it powers is the Oris ProPilot X Calibre 400 watch – an angular and masculine-looking titanium model with sandblasted and satin finishes, a sculpted titanium bracelet, a matching titanium oversized crown with a crown guard, and a titanium caseback fitted with a sapphire crystal exhibition lens for admiring said movement at work. The new 39mm Oris ProPilot X Calibre 400 watch is available in a choice of three different dial colours; blue, grey and salmon. Backed by an innovative campaign led by the visionary talent of one of Oris’ creative directors, Ken Laurent, the new launch intends to provide an even closer insight into the brand’s beautiful watchmaking than ever before.
The advantages of the Oris Calibre 400
As aforementioned, the Oris Calibre 400 comes with an impressive 10-year warranty when you activate your MyOris registration. In addition to this, it boasts a more stable rotor system. It features a low-friction slide bearing system that comprises a metal stud that runs through a metal sleeve, reducing wear and tear along with friction and replacing the need for a ball-bearing system. If that wasn't enough, the Oris Calibre 400 is also highly anti-magnetic with a composition that features more than 30 non-ferrous and anti-magnetic components for improved accuracy. These include components such as a silicon anchor and silicon escape wheel. To top it off, the new fully in-house Calibe 400 promises a useful 5-day power reserve.
The new Oris ProPilot X Calibre 400
The architecture of the newly released Oris ProPilot X Calibre 400 watch unveiled for Watches and Wonders 2022 reveals a style that closely follows the brand’s aviation timepieces from the early 1900s. Its multi-piece titanium case with satin and sandblasted finishes is water-resistant to 100 meters and measures a 39mm diameter. The domed top glass is crafted from scratch-resistant sapphire crystal glass and has been created on both sides with anti-reflective technology. A titanium screw-in security crown is oversized in true ProPilot style and flanked by a crown protection system. Inside the case and observed through a screw-down satin and sandblasted titanium caseback is the Oris Calibre 400, which can be admired through a sapphire exhibition caseback.
The Calibre 400 offers a useful 5-day power reserve and boasts an accuracy of -3 and +5 seconds a day. Certified to COSC standards, its highly anti-magnetic properties ensure better accuracy than ISO demands. The dials of the new Ori ProPilot X Calibre 400 watch are offered in grey, blue and salmon and feature tapering central hour and minute hands, a sweeping second hand and a date window at 6 o’clock. The grey dial version ref, 400 7778 7153 7 20 01TLC features black stick hour markers and matching black Oris lettering, whilst the blue and salmon dial versions ref. 400 7778 7155 7 20 01 TLC and 400 7778 7158 7 20 01 TLC feature light markers, minute dashes and Oris lettering.
All three models secure around the wrist with a chiselled titanium bracelet with satin and sandblasted finishes to match the effect of the case. The bracelets feature a folding clasp and a patented Oris LIFT system that allows you as the wearer to switch the bracelet or strap over with a simple flap-lifting mechanism.
