March LA.B AM2 Automatic Forest Watch Review

Green dials have become somewhat of a trend in the luxury watch industry over the past twelve months. You’ve got giants like Longines introducing the colour into their Spirit collection, IWC Schaffhausen enlivening their Portugieser series with shades of emerald and Swiss watch manufacturer Breitling opting for khaki-green for a military inspired finish. Another name to join the hype is March LA.B, a France-based brand with a prowess for vintage stylings and premium watch movements. One of their current best-selling models is the March LA.B AM2 Automatic Forest watch showcasing its own deep green dial and unique square shaped case. Let’s take a look…

The March LA.B AM series is one of the brand’s most significant collections, embodying their primary philosophy that true beauty lies within watches from the past. The March LA.B AM1 collection was the first born of the series, taking the attitude and swagger of 1960’s timepieces and bringing them to life within cushion-shaped cases and tasteful dial designs. Shortly after, the March LA.B AM2 watch collection was imagined, this time taking its inspiration from the 1970’s, specifically the gentlemen of the time who relished in bravado and style. The era is personified within the parallel lines of the square-shaped cases and the uniquely arranged indexes, just like that of the March LA.B AM2 Automatic Forest watch.

Just as its name suggests, the March LA.B AM2 Automatic Forest watch showcases a wonderful deep forest green dial with vertical brushed finishing. The dial is raised at the centre and falls to make room for the faceted indexes and minutes track running around the edge. Characteristic of the AM2 collection, the indexes are arranged unexpectedly with the markers at 1, 5, 7 and 11 o’clock arranged in line with the border of the case, bringing attention directly to the emerald finish and the strong, faceted hands at the centre. The hour and minute hands are coated in glow in the dark luminescent treatment. The dial is also home to an elongated date window which acts as the 6 o’clock marker bordered in silver and printed in a lime-green finish.

Powering the central hands for hours, minutes and seconds and the date window at 6 o’clock is the automatic winding MIYOTA 9015 calibre. The Japanese made movement opts for 24 jewels, a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and a power reserve of 42 hours. It also guarantees an accuracy of -10 +/- 30 seconds per day. Turn the March LA.B AM2 Automatic Forest watch around and you can admire the movement in all its glory through a screw down exhibition case back where the green colour theme continues.

The March LA.B AM2 Automatic Forest watch continues to impress with its distinctive 39mm square-shaped case, bevelled bezel and statement crown at the 4 o’clock position. The crown is treated to a handsome knurled finish, adorned with the March LA.B emblem in black and silver and helps assist in a healthy water resistant rating of 100 metres. The case is also equipped with bevelled sapphire crystal glass which not only ensures exceptional scratch resistance but delivers easy legibility over the forest green dial thanks to a layer of anti-reflective coating. To complete the March LA.B AM2 Automatic Forest watch, the stainless steel case is paired with a choice of straps including a black vegetal leather strap, a black or brown alligator leather strap or a 7-row link stainless steel bracelet.
