Introducing the Zodiac Super Sea Wolf Pro Diver

The new Super Sea Wolf Pro Diver watches from Zodiac are now ISO-approved and come in distinctive 300-meter water-resistant case designs in a vibrant array of colours.

There has been a steady stream of Zodiac dive watches entering the luxury watch market over the past few years. More recently, the brand has experimented with new colour schemes and updates, creating what is nowadays vastly considered a go-to affordable dive watch for the modern man. Whilst many luxury watch enthusiasts wouldn’t even dream of taking a watch down to 300 meters underwater, the Super Sea Wolf Pro Diver from Zodiac offers this impressive water resistance, making it compliant with ISO standards.

The Zodiac Super Sea Wolf watch is now on par with more high-end dive watches, which is great news for those wanting to scratch the itch of owning a luxury dive watch without having to take out a second mortgage. The popular dive watch was doing well before these modifications, but nonetheless, these improvements add to its appeal. Within the last year, we have seen Zodiac release neon-accented dive watches from this range, a World Timer and a limited edition. Now the brand releases a new Super Sea Wolf Pro Diver watch with some professional-grade updates that are sure to tap into more high-end watch collecting circles. If that’s you – read on.

There are five different colourways to this Pro Diver base line – each one of which follows the faithful styling of a model that was originally released back in 1953 – the Sea Wolf skin diver. The models are designed to pop on the wrist, with vivid colour schemes that have been inspired by the shades of ocean algae. In addition to offering the wearer improved water resistance, the new Zodiac Super Sea Wolf Pro Diver watches are also equipped with a COSC-certified movement. Before we take a look at the new Super Sea Wolf Pro Diver watches, let’s run over the history of the model and how it came to be such a universally appealing wristwatch for divers and Zodiac fans alike.

A brief history of the Zodiac Sea Wolf watch

Launched around the same time as the iconic Fifty Fathoms watch from Blancpain in 1953, Zodiac unveiled its first dive watch with a rotating bezel. Originally the model offered a 100-meter water-resistant rating and boasted Arabic numeral hour markers at 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 o’clock, alternating with baton-type indexes. The broad hands were dauphine-shaped and the watch was considered the predecessor to the official Sea Wolf model we all recognise today. Other than a different size and some necessary modifications to bring the watch into the 21st century, the design language of the Zodiac dive tool has remained unaltered since then, despite being the first choice as a wristwatch for Vietnam War soldiers. This Sea Wolf model transformed into the Super Sea Wolf interpretation during the 1970s and was soon adopted by the U.S. Navy SEALs for its durability and functionality.

Just like other luxury watches, whether dive oriented or not, the unmissable aesthetic of the Super Sea Wolf watch from Zodiac has changed very little since its inception. These robust dive watches were always recognised for their functional design and rarely failed when out to the test. The full resurrection of the Sea Wolf watch can be considered from around the years 2010 onwards, when the brand was bought by the Fossil group. Pure and true to its original design, the Zodiac Sea Wolf today has been modernised in terms of size, growing from an initial 35mm diameter to a 40mm diameter. Now, flourishing with colour, these rugged, masculine and vibrant dive watch designs add interest to the wrist, doubling up as a statement piece as well as a reliable underwater tool.

The new Zodiac Super Sea Wolf Pro Diver watches

As mentioned, the new Zodiac Super Sea Wolf Pro Diver watches are inspired by the colours of ocean algae which makes them a pretty neat option for elevating casual or relaxed/sporty attire. The key features to remember about these new models is that they are now officially ISO compliant and offer an improved 300-meter water resistance, combined with a COSC-certified beating heart. The models all measure a standard 42mm diameter and have been crafted from robust stainless steel, sitting on the wrist at a depth of 14.3mm. These dimensions allow for better depth resistance under the water. Firstly, there’s a vibrant blue bezel iteration combined with a black dial ref. ZO3554. Then there’s a white bezel option surrounding a black dial with an orange flange ref. ZO3553. Thirdly, we have a black-on-black bezel and dial option ref. ZO3552, followed by a white dial version framed by a vibrant orange bezel ref. ZO3555 and the ref. ZO3556, which boasts a vivid green dial and a coral-coloured flange against a silver dial. These bezels rotate unidirectionally, eradicating the risk of accidental dive time extension.

Inspired by the bright bioluminescent algae and sea life found in the depths of the ocean, these new Super Sea Wolf Pro Diver watches from Zodiac certainly catch attention. All of the models feature Grade-A SuperLuminova on the hands, indexes and the bezel, which promises a long-lasting glow in any light-limiting conditions you may find yourself in. In each design, the minute hand is executed in a vibrant contrasting colour, whilst the hour hand is represented in an arrow-shaped tip. Each of the new Zodiac dive watches is outfitted with a Swiss-made Sellita automatic movement. The Sellita SW200-1 movement is a workhorse that produces a 38-hour power reserve and performs at a rate of 28,800 vibrations per hour. It is a movement that is used widely throughout the luxury watch industry and is chosen for its endurance, reliability and stamina. Lastly, each model is fitted on a robust stainless steel bracelet with a folding clasp to provide a secure and comfortable fit against the wrist.

The new Zodiac Super Sea Wolf Pro Diver watch is an elevated design, combining vivid shots of colour with professional dive watch credentials.
