Bremont Unveils S300 RFU Limited Edition Watch
Tuesday - 01 February 2022
The 2022 Guiness Six Nations Championship is fast approaching and to mark this occasion Bremont - the Official Timing Partner to both England Rugby and Twickenham Stadium - releases a new limited edition RFU watch based on the design of its unfaltering Submarine model – the Limited Edition S300 RFU.
Last year, Bremont released a limited-to-150-pieces Bremont RFU watch that marked 150 years of the Rugby Football Union. The robust steel model had a GMT function and was designed with a special bezel for rugby fans. Decked in blue to mark the colour of England Rugby’s alternative kit, its 24-hour function came in a confident 43mm case integrated with 500-meter water resistance and a ceramic bezel with white and red indications that marked the approach of half time, full time and extra time. The year before this, Bremont forged ties with the England Rugby team and began its 2020 partnership by producing the special edition Rose watch, together with match clocks branded with the Bremont name for use at the stadium. Now it’s time to meet the latest release from this fruitful partnership. The Bremont Limited Edition S300 RFU watch shares values with the sport in terms of reliability, precision and technical ability. The new steel 40mm watch is equipped with a unidirectional rotating bezel and offers a simple time and date design with 300-meter water resistance.
Military instrument enthusiasts - the Bremont Brothers - Giles and Nick English have formed successful partnerships with the likes of Martin Baker and Jaguar over the years and taken part in events such as the Isle of Man TT race and Henley Royal Regatta with their sporty timepieces. Bremont’s RFU limited edition watches connect the brand to Britain’s heritage in a sport that was first played in public schools around the 19th century. Students took the rules of the game to university, which were then regulated by the Rugby Football Union (RFU) set up in 1871. Here, three Old Rugbeians wrote the laws of the game whilst the second committee chose a team that would play against Scotland. The first international game was played in 1871 followed by the setting up of a home base and 10 acres of grounds near Twickenham in 1907. A match played between Harlequins and Richmond in 1909 marked the first game to be played at Twickenham, followed by the first International game between England and Wales in 1920, where it has remained the home of the England national team ever since.
The unveiling of the Limited Edition S300 RFU watch underscores the meaning of the “made in England” stamp with this special edition mechanical chronometer. The British-bred watchmaker recently opened its new Manufacturing & Technology Centre named The Wing and since its birth, the brand has focussed on nurturing England’s heritage with several nods to historic Britain. Commemorating the spirit and tenacity of the England team, the new Limited Edition S300 RFU watch is limited to 150 pieces and comes in a down-sized package measuring 40mm. Its red, white and blue colours are inspired by the England Rugby kit but also make reading the time from its legible white dial incredibly easy.
Co-founder, Giles English reflects on the opportunity to create this very special timepiece; “It’s been an honour and privilege to work with England Rugby and to create iconic timepieces that reflect the RFU and Bremont’s shared passions. I feel great pride every time I watch an England game and see Bremont timekeeping presiding over play at Twickenham. We’re looking forward to the forthcoming Guiness Six Nations Tournament where England will no doubt make us all very proud.”
Adding to this, Bremont Ambassador and England Rugby player Tom Curry explains; “Since discovering Bremont and having now seen first-hand the watches being built in Henley-on-Thames, I’ve become a brand advocate and am proud to be a formal ambassador. The designs, craftsmanship and brand ethos are perfectly aligned with what England Rugby stands for, two institutions that are made in England and both ‘Tested Beyond Endurance’.”
The Bremont Limited Edition S300 RFU
The design of the new Bremont Limited Edition S300 RFU watch is based on the Supermarine Type 300 – a model that responds to the demands of professional divers whilst paying respect to a famous 1930’s aircraft company. Some of the key features of the Submarine Type 300 watch include, as its name suggests, a 300-meter water resistance, paired with a unidirectional rotating bezel, a screw-down crown, and luminous dial elements – all of which this new limited edition RFU watch carries.
The new Bremont Limited Edition S300 RFU watch is crafted from stainless steel and features the brand’s Trip Tick case construction – a three-piece structure that has a true aerospace and engineered feel to it. thanks to a machined middle barrel and a bezel developed by a CNC mill-turning machine. Its deep blue laser-engraved unidirectional rotating bezel ensures that elapsed time can be tracked whilst eliminating the risk of accidentally extending dive time when under the water. The watch also features a screw-down caseback engraved with the England Rugby Rose surrounded by the ‘England Rugby – Twickenham” lettering, and comes fitted on a matching stainless steel bracelet with links that have been polished and brushed.
One of the most striking design elements of the new Bremont Limited Edition S300 RFU watch is its debossed rose detail on the dial – the England Rugby team’s emblem. Built for purpose, the model can be worn whilst exploring the deep and daring depths of the ocean, but will also assist with plenty of dry land activity, pairing well with formal attire thanks to the sophistication of its metal bracelet. The white dial is clean and highly legible, with Super-LumiNova-coated applied indexes and central minute and hour hands. A contrasting red sweeping second hand adds a pop of colour to the dial whilst simultaneously referencing the Cross of Saint George.
Inside the core of the new Bremont Limited Edition S300 RFU watch is the chronometer-certified modified calibre BE-92AV. It produces a total of 28,800 vibrations per hour and produces an impressive 38-hour power reserve. Complete with an Anachron balance wheel and a Nivaflex mainspring, its reliable performance offers central hours, minutes, seconds and a date function. The watch is topped with a domed anti-reflective sapphire crystal glass lens and is certified to ISO standards for professional diving use.
