Introducing the Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF GMT Rattrapante Gold Watch
Tuesday - 11 April 2023
Parmigiani Fleurier grows its GMT Rattrapante complication to provide the option of a stunning 18ct rose gold travel watch with independently functioning hour hands for measuring local and home time.
The Tonda PF GMT watch by Parmigiani Fleurier caused huge waves when it entered the luxury watch scene last year. Parmigiani Fleurier had created a chic, elegant and incredibly stylish companion for anyone wanting a travel-come-dress watch. The complication worked similarly to the split seconds complication and featured two independent hour hands. One for telling local time. One for telling home time. What’s more, the Tonda PF GMT Rattrapante watch worked differently from other dual-time watches. Its hands could be moved and set using push-pieces situated on the left side of the case and could be stacked on top of one another for periods when not in use. This year, to mark the brand’s progression in this segment of the watch industry, Parmigiani Fleurier is focussing on seamless practical and functional continuity with yet another release in the form of an 18ct gold model. At the same time, the brand has released the Tonda PF Minute Rattrapante – a watch that can be utilised for measuring timings and designed on the same concept. The new gold Tonda PF GMT Rattrapante watch, however, is an even more indulgent addition to the collections and is perfectly tailored to those who frequently travel on business or for leisure but want to do it in style.
The Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF GMT Rattrapante uses the mechanism featured in a chronograph but in a whole new way. The hands are superimposable and have been crafted from different materials. Last year, the hand sitting underneath was crafted from 18ct rose gold. The gold hand sitting on top had been rhodium-coated so that when stacked on top of the already-legible rose gold hand, it would pair effortlessly with the rest of the dial. This time the 40mm case of the watch has been crafted completely from 18ct rose gold, which has changed the composition of the dial. The same Milano blue shade has been chosen for the display but the hour markers around the edge of the dial have been crafted from matching 18ct rose gold. With that in mind, the central hour hand on top now displays a rose gold finish, whilst the hand underneath bears the rhodium-coated finish for ultimate contrast when both hands are in motion.
How the new Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF GMT Rattrapante watch works
The new Tonda PF GMT Rattrapante watch works in the same way as the 2022 model. The GMT hand moves in one-hour increments when the 8 o’clock pusher is activated. When the dual time function is not needed, the central pusher located on top of the 3 o’clock crown can be activated, bringing both hands together again and stacking them so that they move together to tell the current time as any two-handed time-only watch would do.
Whether you’re only just beginning to appreciate this horological complication by Parmigiani Fleurier, or whether you can’t wait to grow your collection with the addition of this new model, there is no denying the innovative design concept of this timepiece. Flawlessly engineered by specialists at Parmigiani Fleurier, the movement operating this watch has been designed in-house, whilst the combination of the rose gold elements against PF’s stunning Milano blue dial is a complete match made in heaven. The surface of the dial is executed in a “Grain d’Orge” textured effect, giving the display a barleycorn pattern. The hour markers are discreet and crisp, lending themselves to a highly legible yet sophisticated dial that leverages the wrist with a touch of opulence when pairing with formal or elegant attire. Fans of the brand will appreciate how Parmigiani Fleurier has kept the knurled effect on the bezel of this Tonda PF watch, whilst inside, a tried and tested movement performs with complete precision.
The Calibre PF052 is the same automatic movement used in last year’s PF GMT Rattrapante watch. It performs at a rate of 21,600 vibrations per hour and provides a total power reserve of 48 hours once fully wound. It also comprises 215 hand-assembled components, including 32 jewels. From the back of the case, the movement’s 22ct gold oscillating weight and Cotes de Geneve (and Perlage) decoration can be appreciated through a sapphire crystal glass exhibition caseback that attaches to a 40mm case. The 18ct rose gold case of the new Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF GMT Rattrapante watch is 60-meter water resistant and has been fitted not only with a sapphire exhibition caseback, but also an anti-reflective and scratch-resistant sapphire crystal glass front.
The new Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF GMT Rattrapante watch can be enjoyed on an 18ct rose gold link bracelet with brushed and polished effects and a folding clasp engraved with the famous brand’s logo.
