At the back-end of last year, Maurice Lacroix was appointed the role of Official Timekeeper for the Mahindra Racing team – a regular competitor of the FIA Formula E Championship. To celebrate its relationship with the racing team and to further extend its links to the sports industry, Maurice Lacroix releases three new versions of the Aikon watch – the brand’s flagship luxury sports watch. The Mahindra Racing team is part of the USD 19.4 billion federation, Mahindra & Mahindra and has secured 4 victories and taken 18 podiums since 2014 when it began competing in the FIA Formula E Championship – an electric-only racing series that comprises 14 races and 12 cities all over the world. The championship is recognised across the globe for its efforts in promoting the concept of sustainability and raising awareness of global climate change. To help it continue with its role in an eco-friendly approach to motorsport racing, it draws upon the support of prestigious watchmaker, Maurice Lacroix. The ABB FIA Formula E Championship promotes improved air quality by accelerating EV adoption across the globe. The Mahindra Racing team was one of the first Formula E teams to climb on board this mission by joining the FIA’s Sustainability programme and achieving the highest accreditation in doing so.

The Maurice Lacroix Aikon Automatic Chronograph Special Edition Mahindra Racing watch

The new Maurice Lacroix Aikon Automatic Chronograph Special Edition Mahindra Racing watch is a sporty steel chronograph with a day-date complication. The 44mm model encompasses a white sunray dial embossed with a distinct square pattern that is shared with the quartz iteration that we covered in more detail here. With a clear vision in mind – the new Special Edition Mahindra Racing watch was developed with values of accuracy, legibility and speed at its forefront. The new luxury steel sports watch imparts a unique look on the wrist thanks to its colour-filled chronograph dials that appear a shade darker than the more vivid quartz variation. Inspired by the team’s uniform colours, the chronograph counters depicting the 30-minute and 12-hour totalizers at 12 and 6 o’clock respectively are filled with a deep blue hue, whilst the small second function residing at 9 o’clock is a deep red colour. To match this shade of red, the central chronograph seconds hand and the small hands inside the blue sub-counters are also coated in red.

Around the periphery of the dial is a black minute track surrounding stick hour markers and central hour and minute hands that have been treated with Super-LumiNova. The day and date feature occupying the 3 o’clock location is highly readable thanks to being dressed against a bright white background for enhanced visibility. All elements on the square embossed white dial are protected by a pane of sapphire crystal glass. The remarkably strong material is treated with anti-reflective technology and also features on the reverse of the watch to form a sapphire exhibition caseback. The steel case is also water-resistant to 200 meters and features a polished crown embellished with the Maurice Lacroix logo.

The beating heart of the new Maurice Lacroix Mahindra Racing Automatic Special Edition watch is the automatic ML112 movement, which offers hours, minutes, small seconds, chronograph seconds, 12-hours and 30-minute functions along with a day and date feature. It propels at a rate of 28,800 vibrations per hour and is based on the staple Valjoux 7750 movement. It also delivers a running time of 46 hours once fully wound.

To complete the sporty look of this new Maurice Lacroix Aikon watch, the Mahindra Racing Special Edition Automatic is fitted on a blue perforated calfskin strap detailed with contrasting red stitching running down the sides.
