Herbelin Launches New Inspiration & Lunar Women's Watches for 2023

French innovation and Swiss elegance are always at the forefront of Herbelin’s manufacturing processes. For 2023, the brand releases three new ladies’ timepieces from the Inspiration and Lunar collections.

Herbelin’s latest releases for women must be explored by you if you like to wear watches that evoke classic elegance and innate timelessness. Before we go into these new designs and what they offer the modern woman, let’s take a quick look at how Herbelin came to be such a respected watch manufacturer within the industry.

The backstory on Herbelin

You rarely get a reputable watch brand without an interesting back story and why should Herbelin be any different? The company began as a one-man band back in 1946 when Michel Herbelin decided to defy his parents’ wishes of taking on their family business and instead pursued the art of mechanical watchmaking. There, in the heart of the Jura Mountains in Charquemont, Herbelin opened a small workshop on the top floor of his parents’ home having spent a few years gaining experience in a watch factory. He developed his very own watch at the age of just 26.

This first watch was named “IMPEC”. The name stood for impeccable and reflected Michel Herbelin’s aspirations to make watches of impeccable quality that would stand the test of time and be known for their elegance and allure. Thereon, the watches were stamped with the “Made In France” label, since each watch relied on components that were authentically sourced from local suppliers located near Charquemont and infused with Swiss expertise. Having experienced nearly two decades of success with his watches, Michel Herbelin turned IMPEC into Herbelin and was joined along the journey by his two sons, Jean-Claude and Pierre-Michel.

During the height of Herbelin’s success, quartz movements arrived. Whilst many manufacturers succumbed to an early demise due to the popularity of the quartz movement over the mechanical and automatic type during the 60s and 70s, Herbelin saw it as a challenge. An opportunity to harness the company’s creativity and continue to push boundaries in innovative watchmaking. Today it is the founder’s two grandsons that contribute their know-how, their ideas and their guidance to Herbelin.

In 2018 Herbelin celebrated 70 years of exquisite craftsmanship and artisanal know-how. Each watch is hand-assembled in the company’s manufacturing facility. The timepieces developed and released by Herbelin are all imbued with French elegance. Since the year 2020, Herbelin has been managed by Maxime and Mathieu Herbelin – the two grandsons of Michel Herbelin and two other core family members, where it continues to embark upon new chapters in traditional French watchmaking. This brings us to the newest releases from the company – designed for feminine wrists.

The new Inspiration and Lunar models

For 2023, Herbelin has chosen to release one model from the company’s Inspiration collection and two models from the Lunar series. All three models are designed for women and evoke a sense of elegance and finesse. The Inspiration model belongs to a series designed for its simplicity and classic persona. The two Lunar watches are instantly recognisable for their square-shaped cases, bringing to the wrist a unique way to tell the time.

The new Herbelin Inspiration watch for 2023

The new Herbelin Inspiration watch reference 10647AP17TRGD is a perfectly round model crafted from stainless steel with a  manageable 32mm diameter. The timepiece bridges the gap between vintage and modern with a retro-inspired eggshell dial colour and luxurious yellow gold PVD-coated hands and indexes. The hour markers are stick-shaped whilst the black dashes around the minute track are legible and crisp. A longitude and latitude line runs through the centre of the dial. Reflecting this design code is the small second sub-dial at 6 o’clock, complete with a compass-like cross running through the middle. The crown at the 3 o’clock location on the steel case is knurled to aid the wearer's grip and the model is powered by a quartz movement. To finish its subtle vintage edge, the new lady’s Herbelin Inspiration watch is fitted on a caramel brown leather strap and a stainless steel fastening.

The new Herbelin Lunar watches for 2023

The two new Herbelin women’s watches from the Lunar collection look similar in style to the unmistakable Cartier de Santos watch design, and feature a stainless steel or bi-colour case. Whilst the reference 17457AP01 features a case crafted entirely from stainless steel, the reference 17457T01 is the two-toned variant with a stainless steel case and a yellow gold PVD coated bezel. Both watches are similar in design, with a dial centre finished with a guilloche effect. The outer section of the dial is beaded. Black Roman numeral hour makers are resolutely classic, whilst the central hour and minute hands are dauphine shaped and black. Both models are powered by a quartz movement and both are fitted on a traditional-looking black leather strap.
