Bremont Battle of Britain Limited Edition Set Review

Last week, Bremont unveiled a truly unique limited edition set of Bremont watches to tribute the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Britain. The remarkable duo of timepieces consists of a Bremont Spitfire and a Bremont Hurricane watch displayed in a stunning wooden and leather presentation box. The set also gives each customer the incredible opportunity to fly in a Spitfire plane, an aircraft which fought in the air in 1940.

The Battle of Britain was a major air campaign fought over southern England in the summer and autumn of 1940 and is often described as the first major military campaign fought entirely by air forces. After the evacuation of the British Expeditionary Force from Dunkirk and the Fall of France, Germany intended to achieve air supremacy in preparation for an invasion of Great Britain. The pilots of RAF Fighter Command flew iconic aircrafts including the Hurricane and Spitfire and ultimately, the Luftwaffe was defeated by Fighter Command, forcing Hitler to abandon his invasion plans. Having such strong connections to the history of aviation and the military, Bremont is the perfect luxury watch manufacturer to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the event and bring to life two historic aircrafts within the limited edition set.

So much of our lives have revolved around wartime aviation and mechanical devices. The Battle of Britain was such an iconic time in British history, and all of the airmen from both sides were superheroes of the day (they still are in Giles and my households). It is the epic story of man and machine, the wonderful celebration of gallantry twinned with technological advance. The fact that we have come up with a beautifully engineered set of timepieces commemorating the battle, and with it comes the unique opportunity to experience the adrenaline and history of flying in a wartime Spitfire, is a totally unique offering in the marketplace. It’s all rather special really.” – Nick English, Bremont Co-Founder

The Bremont Battle of Britain Limited Edition Watch Set comprises of a pair of watches each inspired and designed after their own aircraft counterpart. The Bremont Spitfire Chronograph pays homage to an aircraft considered the most widely produced and strategically important British single-seat fighter of World War II while the Bremont Hurricane watch takes design cues from the clocks seen in the iconic Hurricane plane. More uniquely, each customer of the limited edition Bremont watch set will be eligible for a flight in a Spitfire plane at Duxford, UK and has been arranged by Bremont’s partners, the Aircraft Restoration Company. The box in which the two timepieces sit also features a special disc which can be engraved with the date of your flight!

Bremont Battle of Britain Spitfire Watch

First up in the Bremont Battle of Britain set is the Spitfire watch, a stunning chronograph paying homage to the Supermarine Spitfire plane. It’s design also tributes Bremont’s first historic limited edition, the EP120, with a dial design inspired by the Smiths clocks found in the Spitfires flown during the Battle of Britain. It’s stealthy all-black DLC coated stainless steel case is paired with a matching black metal dial and a unique closed case back stamped with the profile of a Spitfire aircraft.

Housed within the 43mm case is the BE-54AE autoamtic winding movement, chronometer certified and with a power reserve of 42 hours. The Swiss made calibre provides central hands for hours, minutes, chronograph seconds and 24 hour GMT, a date window at 4 o’clock and three subsidiary counters for continuous seconds, 30 minutes and 12 hours. For optimal legibility of each of the functions, the black dial is treated with nickel hands with Superluminova luminous coating and housed beneath scratch resistant sapphire crystal glass. To complete the look, the 100 metre water resistant timepiece is fitted with a vintage black leather strap with off-white side stitching and a black DLC treated pin buckle.
