The Laco Edition 97 watch is described by its creator as a testimony of vintage spirit and maturity.
Following 2020’s Laco Edition 95 watch – a modified iteration of the Navy Cuxhaven/Bremerhaven -the second special edition Laco watch to be released following the company’s five-year promise was the Laco Edition 96. The watch had a monochromatic diving-style aesthetic based on the Squad/Sport “Scorpion” watch collection. It was a stylish black and white affair with a sleek black PVD-coated stainless steel case. Its screwed-down crown at 3 o’clock had the number 96 engraved into its surface, whilst the back of the case showcased a Scorpion in relief. All special edition Laco watches to be released between the years 2020 and 2025 (marking the brand’s centenary) will pay homage to an important watch in the brand’s history. Undeniably, these historical naval watches are landmarks in the brand’s history, as is the new Laco Edition 97 watch, celebrating the brand’s B-Uhren watches.
The new Baumaster B-style dial used by the brand for this special edition Laco watch offers an intriguing way to tell the time. The hours are displayed on an inner scale whilst the outer ring displays the minutes in large-sized Arabic numerals. To evoke a truly retro feel, the minute markers and the hands on the dial are treated with “Old Radium” Super LumiNova. The Laco Anniversary watch – Edition 97
Not just for pilots, the Lado Edition 97 watch is a modern-day luxury watch based on the design of the company’s B-Uhren watches. Used during World War II. It pays tribute to the role played by Laco in supporting the German government with timekeeping tools during the Second World War. The B-Uhr watches came in three different styles. Type A featured a simple three-handed dial, Type B featured the minutes in the outer section of the dial and Type C were chronograph versions. To deliver on reliability and legibility, the instruments used during this crucial period of history needed to have good lume and needed to withstand knocks and bumps. The Old Radium Super-LumiNova coated elements on the dial of this new Laco Edition 97 recreate the age-old feel of the special timekeeping instruments from this era and complement a distressed leather strap that secures the watch to the wrist perfectly.
Despite its vintage flair, the new Laco Edition 97 watch is a modern companion for wearing every day of the week. Particularly great for adding to smart and casual attire, its perfectly round case is classic and versatile. The bronze material of the case is a popular choice for modern luxury watches, especially those paying homage to historical models of the past since they evoke the retro feel of military timepieces, pilot's watches and naval watches with an aged look that develops over time as the material acquires its own patina. The 100-meter water-resistant case is also topped with a double-curved piece of scratch-resistant sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective properties.
Inside the case of the new Laco Edition 97 watch is the Sellita SW200-based Automatic movement, which keeps track of time with a performance of 28,800 vibrations per hour and a power reserve once fully wound of 38 hours. It sits behind a closed caseback and comprises a total of 26 jewels.
Limited to just 97 pieces worldwide, the special number of each unique timepiece is engraved onto the model’s closed caseback. The watch is completed on a distressed brown leather strap and encloses with a matching bronze pin buckle fastening.
