Bell & Ross Launches BR V2-92 FULL LUM Watch

The new Bell & Ross BR V2-92 FULL LUM watch boasts a fully luminous dial with contrasting hands and hour markers that glow richly for night missions inside the cockpit

The successor to the Bell & Ross BR V2-94 FULL LUM has finally arrived. Launched exactly a year ago, that FULL LUM watch optimized contrast and reduced reflection with a highly legible pilot’s watch design inspired by a dashboard instrument. It was purpose-built with strong aviation and military inspiration. In many ways, it advocated for a real need for luminescent materials on a timekeeping instrument in dark conditions or during the night. Now Bell & Ross introduces the next watch devoted to night vision – the BR V2-92 FULL LUM – another member of the BR V2 watch collection. It arrives simultaneously alongside the Bell & Ross BR V2-92 Orange watch on a choice of a black rubber strap or stainless steel bracelet. The all-round sports watch with some classic pilot’s watch-inspired elements breathes new life into this versatile model. It continues to pay lineage to the brand’s glow-in-the-dark watches, including the BR 03-92 Diver FULL LUM releases not so long ago.

From Radium to a FULL LUM dial made from SLN

In watchmaking, the answer to creating a fully legible timepiece for nighttime missions in the cockpit came in the form of radioactive materials. Radium first found its way onto the dial of a watch not long after its discovery in 1898. The material was used up until the 1960s until it was eventually banned for its harmful effects in 1963. It was replaced with tritium which had a much shorter life span. It would be a long three decades before tritium was eventually replaced by Super-LumiNova in 1994. The new material was stable, non-toxic and highly effective in dark conditions with a virtually inexhaustible use for a watch dial. It would require charging to emit light in dark conditions and has been the go-to luminescent material used by the majority of 21st-century luxury watch manufacturers, thanks to its versatility and its many colour variations that can be achieved by mixing endless pigments for a different finish.

Bell & Ross has been tinkering with luminescent material in a serious way since 2017, growing its concept of an innovative fully luminous dial with the release of the BR 03-92 HOROLUM. The new Bell & Ross BR V2-92 FULL LUM watch is still inspired by dashboard flight instruments and follows in the footsteps of the NIGHTLUM released in 2018, the 2019 FULL LUM watch, the GREY LUM watch that followed a year later, and of course, the 2021 release of the BR 03-92 Diver FULL LUM.

The new Bell & Ross BR V2-92 FULL LUM closely follows the design codes of the BR V2 line. It features a rounded stainless steel case measuring 41mm in diameter with a mix of brushed and polished finishes. It also sits at a depth of 11.50mm and boasts a highly domed anti-reflective and scratch-resistant sapphire crystal glass front, giving the timepiece its recognisable retro-vibe. To uphold the case’s 100-meter water resistance, the watch features a screw-down crown and a crown protecting guard. The back of the case is also sealed with sapphire crystal glass, affording a nice view of the movement fitted to the heart of the watch.

The new Bell & Ross BR V2-92 FULL LUM watch is executed in a very classic way. It still features the large Arabic numerals and pill-shaped hour markers around the hour track, as well as the pilot-style central hour and minute hands. During the day, the display takes on a light water green colour with the hands and hour markers exuding a pale yellow hue. During the night, the Super-LumiNova C5 for the dial is a sheer blue colour, whilst the hands and hour markers glow richly in green Super-LumiNova C3. It’s a striking visual display by night – a spectacle that makes the watch a desirable thing to own, leveraged further by its exclusive run of just 500 pieces.

The dial of the new Bell & Ross BR V2-92 FULL LUM watch is surrounded by a black anodised aluminium bezel with a 60-minute scale that rotates bi-directionally and can be used for effortlessly measuring elapsed time. Other features of the watch include its automatic movement, equipped with a 42-hour power reserve. The automatic BR-CAL.302 performs at a rate of 28,800 vibrations per hour and features snailed decoration upon its bridges and rotor that can be admired through a sapphire exhibition feature. The FULL LUM watch also features a date window at 4:30 and comes fitted on a supple black rubber strap that secures to the wrist with a stainless steel pin buckle.
