Introducing the Tissot Seastar 2000 Professional Powermatic 80
Thursday - 21 April 2022
Another watch with solid diving capacities has joined Tissot’s Seamaster watch collection, driven by a powerful movement and encased in an all-round robust construction. The new Tissot Seamaster 2000 Professional Powermatic 80 watch comes in two variations – one with a blue and black abyssal theme and one with golden finishes.
Last year, Tissot updated its Seastar collection with the addition of the Seastar 2000 Professional – an instrument-oriented and ultra-robust dive watch, which joined the Tissot Seastar 1000 model, reflecting its 1000-feet water-resistant capability in its name. The Tissot Seastar 2000 Professional watch was built around the same principles as its 1000-feet water-resistant counterpart but offered an impressive 2000-feet water resistance. The ISO rated dive tool was also affordable, shock resistant and boasted anti-magnetic features. The beefed-up model released in 2021 also created wrist presence with its 46mm diameter and was powered by the reliable Powermatic 80 movement, which sat inside a resolutely masculine case design with angular, chunky dimensions. Now, Tissot releases a new Seastar 2000 Professional watch – the next generation of the Seastar 2000 line, measuring the same 46mm diameter and sitting at a thickness of 16.25mm on the wrist. Make no mistake, this is a large and attention-demanding dive watch that doesn’t look remotely casual on the wrist, and that’s a great thing considering its appealing price tag.
The big watch for a big dive…
The new Tissot Seastar 2000 Professional Powermatic 80 watch is powered by the same movement used for its ancestor and features a bevelled and domed anti-reflective sapphire crystal glass front. A screw-down crown and caseback enable the watch to comply with ISO diving safety standards, assisting with a leakage-free environment for all the integral organs of the watch. Its case is crafted from 316L stainless steel and is fitted with a sapphire crystal glass caseback that affords a view of the movement at work. The new Tissot Seastar 2000 Professional watch also features a helium escape valve and a unidirectional rotating bezel crafted from polished black ceramic, featuring a 60-minute dive scale.
Whether you’re opting for the gradient black or gradient blue-black dial, the two new Tissot Seastar 2000 Professional watches guarantee utmost legibility with their chunky sword-shaped hour and minute hands and visible circular/rectangular hour markers coated in plenty of Super-LumiNova. The blue-black gradient model ref. T120.607.37.041.00 is a fun option with a stealthy black PVD-coated steel case, whilst the black gradient model ref. T120.607.17.441.01 features brushed and polished elements across its steel case, as well as golden dial elements that give this robust dive watch a luxurious feel. Both models feature a date aperture at 6 o’clock, set against a black background and both displays boast a stunning wave-effect surface that adds an element of depth and dimension to the design.
As its name suggests, the Powermatic 80 movement offers an 80-hour power reserve and is automatic winding. Based on the ETA C07.111 movement, it comprises 23 jewels and performs at a rate of 21,600 vibrations per hour. A Nivachron balance spring is constructed from a titanium alloy, providing anti-magnetic features to this movement. To complete its dive-ready look, the new Tissot Seastar 2000 Professional watch comes on a black rubber strap to match the black gradient dial with golden accents, whilst the blue-black gradient watch is completed on a sporty blue textile and black rubber strap.
